all you can do is call concerned people names. For YOUR information, I am not an "unskilled moron" as you put it so nicely. I am a grandmother who is now retired because no one wants to hire a grandma no matter how good they are at the job they do.

Thank God YOU are not anywhere near where I live because I wouldn't take a broken down rattletrap to you to be fixed and I feel sorry for any of your clients. THEY can do better than you!

As I write this, our '01 Impala is at the tranny shop. When they drained the fluid and took out the filter, it is covered with bits of metal, both brass and steel. So something is messed up inside this wonderful tranny.
Do you have a smart aleck answer to that Mr. IFIXCARZ4U?
No I didn't take it to the Chevrolet dealer. I don't trust them.
Oh we called the dealershiip repair shop and told them of the findings and their comment - There aren't any service bulletins about it - sorry, no can help.

Update on the tranny - they had to replace the torque converter core - that's where the metal shavings on the filter were coming from. Got the car back yesterday - to the tune of $2516.39. today we are taking the parts and the bill to our local Chevrolet dealer. If they wont' do anything about it,we will be sending all of the information to GM. It is a crock that this should happen with a transmission with under 51 miles on it!

I take offense to your post because of the problems i have had, and then for you to sit there and call us whiners. GM cars are shit and i will not buy another one for awhile. I have but about $6500 bucks into mine. If you want to hear what i have been through then email me because i'm would be more then happy to tell you all about it. Just don't give peope a bunch of crap for complaining about their cars because....after thats what this forum is for!!!!!

Mike
you probably bought a lemon of some pubilc auction, i had problems with my previous 00 camry (everyone told me get toyota. piece if shit, used engine cost $1500 compare to $500 for an impala) had to pay $2500 for engine change, u can't really tell today whats good or not. u just have to get it at a reputable place. don't judge GM from your bad experience with one car. they sold over a million units.
as far as chevys i think they are pretty good. i sell used parts and gm have a low request for major parts like motors and trannys.

Maybe the trans went bad because u granny drive so slow the trans got tired of u and had a meltdown.......lol
but seriously it can happen at any milage to any car, i've seen a jetta with 32 miles, i repeat 32 miles come back to the dealer with a bad trans.

Very Professional, Which dealer you work for bud? You certinly are not giving them a good image as well as other dealership shop workers. I know you people know your crap, so why not use your knowledge to give some helpful advice rather than call people who are seeking help morons.

IFIXCARZ4U,

The tranny on my '00 had a bad pressure control solenoid valve and it didn't throw a code. You repair dorks saying that if you can't reproduce the problem or there isn't a code so there's nothing wrong is a bunch of BS. I've proven my local Chevy dealer wrong numerous times. I have driven my LS for 110,000 miles and I know when something is wrong. Why don't you go back to the dealership and whip one off with some 10W30 because obviously your boyfriend isn't taking care of your needs at home. Boo hoo, grease money!

Re: Transmision question

As far as I know GM dealerships do NOT rebuild transmissions. I called many withing towing-distance of Princeton NJ - they will only put in remanufactured.

AAMCO (and other chains) will do R&R and will also tow you for free if you decide to do the repair with them. My Buick Century with 23K miles is getting said treatment as we are speaking.

The 4T65E's from some years seem to have a design/manufacturing error and the TCC valve experiences abnormal wear and begins to leak. That valve is responsible for 'applying' the gear and when it leaks, the pressure is incorrect and clutches wear or do not apply correctly. It EVENTUALLY (in my case much sooner than that word implies) leads to (for my Buick) TSB # 03-07-30-017 which involves replacing the valve body (or sonnex kit - you want the later!) and all damaged parts which, for me, were ~$1200 (just parts!).

Even with that, the dealer is still $1000 more. I don't know what warranty the dealer's tranny is but most chains offer 1yr/12K with a 3yr/36K for more ($400).

Other than that, we like the car == Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play :-)

Cheers,
Fil

ok TCC is the torque converter clutch.... nothing to do with shifting,
the TCC apllies at high speed and locks the converter to the engine speed thus saves gas. You can feel it when You go on the highway it's like the car goes into 5th gear. on new models trannys like the 4T65E it engages also in lower gears.
You probably have a problem with the presure control regulator and it is effects the smoothness or firmness of the shifts. it is common for all trannys to give some kind of metal "dust" lets say - I don't care if it is a buick or a mercedes it will have some wear with time, even after 23K!
that fine metal debris sometimes can cause a restriction at the control valve and cause "not so normal" shifting.
That's why I always recomend to my customers to replace the Trans fluid and filter at least once every year (and not as the manufacturer says.. 100K... forget about that), this will prevent that kind of problems in the future. everyone change engine oil at 3000 miles but the trannys always get neglected. it is one of the hardess working parts in the car, why not take care of it too??

You got to check it at a differest dealer... or a reputable shop
110,000 mile - something will be bad in the trans unless you took extreme care of it-like changing fluid and filter once a year.
if you didn't maintain the trans properly you have a reason to complain... the fluid will probably be brown and the unit clutches and other valves worn - tell the dealer to take the pan down and look at it - You can tell immidiately if something is wrong and that even the morons in your dealership would see i'm sure! well unless ray charles is your mechanic....

Maybe Ray IS my mechanic... not really... My tranny is just breaking down at 160k, only counting down now, I expect it to fail inevitably, but won't do anything about it until it does.
