Re: Average Lifespan of a Jeep xj
As far as "average" lifespan... well if you calculated all the premature failures due to any and all circumstances as well as all the long running, well maintained examples I would assume you'd end up with an average of between 180 and 200k miles. For all those guys running 250k plus, theres as many dead xjs at around 150k.
So there's my estimate. 200k.

Re: Average Lifespan of a Jeep xj
We screwed up the engine at around 180K miles on ours, then put in a new engine, and I've got about 257K miles on the vehicle now.

Re: Average Lifespan of a Jeep xj
Rust will bring a jeep down before its time here in Minnesota. I plan on keeping mine until breaks apart into rust pieces. We had an 81 Cherokee (full size) that had 160k and a lot of rust. We repainted it a few years ago. Got rid of it last year. Still ran good, but the frame was rusted through by the gas tank. The 85 xj had large holes through it when we sold it 4 years ago. I plan on keeping the 2000 xj clean and painted for another 10 years.
