My heart goes out to all those man, women and children lost to that tragic event. May they rest in peace. The number of vicitms keeps getting higher and higher by the day. And thats not counted the countless others that will be suffering afterwards from famine, disease and homelessness.

Thanks and good luck.It won't be at all pretty over there. We've only seen the tip of the iceberg so far, it will take a lot of hard work to ensure that the after-effects are not more deadly than the waves.

It's times like this that the world has to work together.Fortunately, the UN already has a forward supply network in some of the affected areas because of the unstable polical situation in Sri Lanka.

Re: 20 meter tidal wave kills 12,000 in Thailand!!! Breaking News!

i'm uneducated because I don't read and watch the news. I guess we are going over there for 45-60 days. I was told that the disease problem is because of their religion they can not burn the dead. so they are burrying them and keeping the disease around. Not sure if that's the deal... that's just what I heard. anyway... I look forward to actually doing something for once. I'll keep you posted on the real deal over there in Thailand if I can!

Re: 20 meter tidal wave kills 12,000 in Thailand!!! Breaking News!

latest reports on the situation are grim very hot and humid over there, far too many bodies to count or recover quickly. Mass burials are proceeding as fast as possible with minimal identification.Victims are being fingerprinted and photographed for future identification where possible.Secondary deaths due to water - related disease and decomposing bodies is a real risk. It's hard to imagine the population of a small city removed by a natural disaster in such a quick fashion. What's even harder to comprehend is the amount of destruction, and the distances that it covers. The disaster has only just started.Hundreds of miles of populated coastline are without clean water or habitable shelter.

It's terrible, and going up every hour or two. Add disease on top of that, and there will likely be double the losses of life.

Even stranger (scarier?) is that some scientists are saying that this quake was so big, that it might have slowed-down the Earth's rotation permanently.

Re: 20 meter tidal wave kills 12,000 in Thailand!!! Breaking News!

hotter days...colder nights..

look at the good side, we might go over 24 hours per rotation but it'l take a while for the work day to go up!!!

seriously though i heard someone saying that a lot of people could have been saved if a warning had have been issued but it wasn't because diplomaticaly the country where the quake occurred is meant to warn people and they didn't so others that knew didn't... has anyone seen anything on this? cause that woud suck!

Re: 20 meter tidal wave kills 12,000 in Thailand!!! Breaking News!

Officially, the worst national disaster in world recorded history.

If our planet is capable of this in a seconds, it can be a lot worse in the future, claiming 10's of milllions of lives, like in the day after tomorrow.

I'm building a bunker!

btw, death toll is now 75,000

Re: 20 meter tidal wave kills 12,000 in Thailand!!! Breaking News!

It is now 80,000. (its serious when it goes up by 5000 in 2 posts)

The worst thing is that a relative's friend in penang could be dead. I dont really know if somebody died or not, my mother doesnt talk about it. But they all felt the earthquake there in the morning. It was quite powerful, furniture dropping all around..

(I keep thinking if the quake was a little closer to singapore, this island would be some forgotten underwater city by now)
