Re: 2000+ racing a 1998 cobra mustand??
I dont wanna be the prick in this thread, but what the hell?? You say your going to Wyo-Tech? If you plan on going there you better educate yourself on the types of cars that are out there, and what is practical for their application. The best way to learn about this kinda stuff is to go to your Public Library and read some books. Thats right you public library actually has alot of books that covers this exact thing. You can also go to Barns and Noble. They have an awesome selection of import & domestic car books. But probably the best thing you can do is go get a job at a garage as a grease monkey. I hate to say it... wait no I dont, but half the people in these forums are complete morons! Also never ever, ever mention any F&F shit in here again. It actually takes any credit you had coming in right away. If you ever want to learn drifting techniques PM me, and I'll give you a few hints, and maybe a video or two... If I could ever learn how to upload it. so peace out, and have a Merry Christmas, or in some cases Hope you had a wonderfull Hanakauh!

stage 1 from the rippmods.com •335.1HP Eclipse GT Automatic transmission and im sure it might b abit lower. its running at 5-6psi plus i plan on getting an injen exhaust which should bump it up a little and switch the basic air filer that comes with the package with a diff filter. |

http://www.club3g.com/forum/showthread.php?t=101 http://www.eclipseforums.org/fortopic106597.html as you can see the dyno numbers for the RIPP kits are nothing what they should be. even RIPP's own status only has 311whp with the stage II. thats one reason that alot of 3g owners want a turbo. RIPPs gonna charge you almost $6000 and you wont even break 300whp. |

there also seems to be alot of RIPP kits out there, but nobody has dyno numbers for them. ever wonder why? maybe b/c when they saw what they dynoed, they felt stupid for spending that much money for the little hp they gained.

Well, For the most part that is probably true, but IDK. Stock my GT can beat a new body (99+) Mustang GT off the line, through middle of 2nd. Then the GT gets me. Granted thats only a GT, but I still think that a modded 3G eclipse would beat a modded SVT. Put a high PSI forced induction, Good wheels, and a long stretch of road, and I think the FWD would get the Mustang purely on traction. The Mustang would have to be a VERY skilled driver to know launch RPM, and know what the hell he was doing to keep the wheels planted. FWD is a lot more forgiving when it comes to traction. Thats just my 2cents. My DREAM DREAM DREAM car is a 97 T-top Supra TT. |

i know that 335 isnt whp. i wasnt taking about whp. im sure it wount add that much whp. maybe around 120-150. (guessin) but it like when ppl ask me how much HP i have i tell them stock is 200hp i dont tell them the whp. so if sum1 asks how much hp i have after the s/c ill say over 300
lol i dont really mind the minimum whp gain from the kit. all i know is that it will b much faster then stock and thats all i care about.

Re: 2000+ racing a 1998 cobra mustand??
why the hell would an eclipse which is FWD catch a mustang which is RWD ON TRACTION? C'mon man, make some fucking sense, RWD cars get better traction for drag racing than FWD cars. Also, a '03 SVT Cobra has 390 hp STOCK and weighs about the same as an eclipse GT. You'd need a hell of alot of boost to get 3.0L SOHC engine to 390 hp, it would probably be pushing the limits of pump gas. Also, when you're making that much power you're going to have a hell of a time trying to launch any FWD car without insane amounts of wheelhop, smoking the tires for the first 100', or just plain snapping something in the driveline.
If you you think that a FWD car is "more forgiving" then either all the FWD cars you've driven have been gutless and underpowered or you've never driven a RWD car with decent tires.

I take it ou only drive in straight lines...otherwise you would understand what Im talking about. All a FWD car is gonna do in a turn is push if you are going to fast, maybe the rear will slide out a little, but thats from momentum, not power. A RWD car, with too much throttle, will go around a hell of a lot easier than a FWD. If a FWD car is boosted, more than likely they have Limited Slip Diff, Upgraded suspension, and larger diameter tires. This would prevent almost all wheel hop, and off the LINE (i never said it would catch it) would beat a RWD. The car that jumps the line first usually has the best chance. Also, FWD cars dont lose really any power in the driveshaft, simply because there really is no driveshaft. Its DIRECT power to the wheels, unlike RWD. If a V6 Stang were FWD I think it would beat a GT eclipse (bigger motor, more HP, more Torque), but it loses a lot of power through the drive train. My friend has a 99 SVT Cobra with a lot of modds, and has really nice rims and tires, and has had maaaaaany a scare with the back end losing traction when he didnt expect it. All that said Im not saying that an SVT would lose for sure, Im just saying that Im SURE it is possible for it to happen.(That doenst include the Stang F**ing up) |

Re: 2000+ racing a 1998 cobra mustand??
what the fuck does tire DIAMETER have to do with handling or wheelhop, bigger wheels create MORE wheelhop. RWD cars lose very little from the rotating mass of the driveshaft, the FWD differential causes alot more. The V6 mustang is slower than an eclipse GT because it has 10 less hp, not because its RWD. Your friend with the Cobra has had lots of scares because his tires aren't as good as you think they are or because he doesn't know how to drive, not because RWD is any worse during turns. I drive autocross, I know how FWD and RWD cars react on the limit, and personally I prefer the oversteer of a RWD car to the massive understeer of a FWD car. You must prefer understeer, which makes you a rare breed.
