Re: Crank Pully Removal help Please

Well I finally got the mo'fo. Had to use the 3/4" drive w/ 6' cheater pipe. Tried doing it with out the pipe but damn near busted a nut. Hell even with the pipe it took alot of force. Nearest I can tell they used a Yellow substance on the bolt. I'm assuming some off brand of loc-tite.

It is a regular thread BTW. Jeff I suggest you get you at least a good set of 1/2" drive sockets, extension and breaker bar, Your gunna need it.

Re: Crank Pully Removal help Please

mine was a standard 88 CRX SI. All I did to lock the pully was grab one of my cargo straps from my truck. Put one hook in one hole, wraped once on the lower controll arm then hooked the 2nd hook on another hole in the pully. Figured if I F'ed up the pully (which I didn't) they're cheaper than a flywheel. Held great BTW.

Re: Crank Pully Removal help Please

I had a hell of a time with mine. Breaker bars and lesser impact wrenches wouldn't budge it. I ended up buying an Ingersoll Rand rattle gun that puts out something like 600 ft-lb in reverse. It took it right off. I will never buy a cheap impact wrench again.

Re: Crank Pully Removal help Please

Jeff, you know what hell I had to go through. My issue was they put thread lock on it. Sounds like they did the same to you. See if you can't find anyone with a 3/4" drive socket, extension and breaker bar. Then aquire a good 6' piece of pipe. That's the only advice I can give ya.

You might be able to get it with a good set of 1/2" drive stuff, just make sure it's of Impact quality.

thats funny, you know i had the same prob with the hub bolts on my 88 civic, i had my 300 lb friend stand on my braker bar and he broke the bar. so one side i cut is in half and it broke free, but the i went out and got a 1/2 gun with 400fb and the other side came right off.

you can try to heat it up a little, but not to much.
