You'd know if you had a blown head gasket - oil in the radiator coolant, coolant in the oil, etc. They can just go(for no apparent reason) but overheating , and resultant warping of the head, is a common cause.

When you checked the oil as being you said it was warmed up. How about when the lube tech checked it? Plugged head/block return passages and cold(think New Hampshire, its -21°F here tonight!) oil could pool enough oil in the heads and block to make the stick read down a few quarts.

You said that there was a lot of oil around the filter area. My money would be on that the lube tech stripped the oil filter threads, used the wrong filter, left the old gasket up there, etc.

Re: Engine Won't Turn Over and Major Oil Leak After Having the oil changed Last Night!!!

Got the diagnosis for the starter problem (the new one and perhaps for the exisiting one) is the crank sensor.

NO oil leak was found. So evidently the issue about whatever happened at Wallyworld with the oil change and the recent starting issue were coincidental.

I haven't actually spoke with the mechanic who diagnosed the crank sensor issue (I'm being charged 2.5 hours for diagnosis and 1.5 for labor+ the part of course...and Auntie Rell's share...) but the office person told me that there was NO evidence of the oil leak that the tech at Wallyworld told me about!! So when I pick up my car on Monday, I'll try to see if I can talk to the mechanic directly to ask about it.

Because of the oil leak issue along with the starting issue - I thought I was dealing with a much bigger problem ..so didn't the mechanic that I initially went to, so much so that he didn't even want to bother with my car.

Because of that hold up in having to find another place to work on my car, I ended up having to eat another $200 for a rental car!!!

The comments here assured me that I wasn't dealing with a major issue in the engine but I was already in panic mode with the holidays and some appointments this week that I couldn't miss.

So I'm still going to be asking about the possible issues with the oil leak...that were mentioned in this thread...thanks!!!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS
