wow you don't know anything about automotive engineering or BMW, do you? Speed limiters are not determined only by a factor of how much power is available, but by the overall stability of the factory stock car at such high speeds. Also, BMW north america doesn't determine what the american speed limiters will be set at ; that's determined by BMW research and development teams as the car is being designed in germany. One reason might possibly be that there is not a road in north america designed with speeds that high in mind.
uhhh no...European E30s topped out at 132 mph according to figures published in Auto Motor und Sport (find out what that is)

as for the rest of your comments
Thank you for the...lesson on how BMW design their cars! Thank God they design their cars in... Germany too! As far as BMW of NA all I have to say to you is: Do you understand the concept of *sarcasm*?

I do have all official *factory* figures for all european versions since 1985. They're listed in the back pages of the yearly german Auto Katalog (a publication of Auto Motor und Sport). A euro '94 325i (not ix) is listed as follows (apparently very different from US versions):

2494cc
192hp (PS DIN) at 5900rpm
245Nm at 4200rpm (don't know how it translates in lb/ft)
Top Speed: 233kph (that's 145mph)

I think this thread has gone way off-topic. The person that was asking about his/her E46 325xi making noises beyond 150mph never explained where he/she is or what version he/she has but never got an answer either!
