If the adjustment of the bands dosent help try putting a additive from Lucas oil for trans. Make sure the trans fliud and filter is new. The condition from hearing trans techs is called morning sickness could be fluid, bands, worn valve body and pump.

Ok everyone - Here is the update from the dealership (reminder - this is where my 99 Jeep GC is for having a clunking sound when the vehicle shifts from 2nd to 3rd).. Last night after the dealer telling me for the 5th day that they cannot duplicate the sound - or- the sounds they are hearing is normal. I said I am coming down to drive it with a technician to see if they can hear what I am hearing. Of course the vehicle wasn't cold, so no sound (I am starting to feel a little crazy - and they are starting to think the same). I finally pull over in the middle of the test drive and put the car in N and then shift to R, and go back and forth a few times between these positions. The tranny makes a nice and loud clunk each and everytime. I say to the guy this cnnot be a normal sound. and this sound is similiar to the clunk between 2nd and 3rd. He aggreed and will have a tech hook it up and see if it gives and faults to thte monitor. I will let you all know how it plays out today.

Re: Transmission slippage please help!!!
please let us know if they find anything.
I have the same CLUNK sounds on my 94 when shifting into REVERSE, I thought it was normal. however I do not have it when the tranny shifts from gear to gear in DRIVE, only in REVERSE. |

Re: Transmission slippage please help!!!
While you have his attention ask him about the cold trnsmission not wanting to shift into high and sometimes slipping if you back off on the gas to see if you can get it to drop into high.

Re: Transmission slippage please help!!!
if you have a 99 or 00 get your TCM software updated, bands adjusted, fluid and filter changed(just do it all if you havent recently). 99 and 00 factory software skips 4th gear. (kind of) it goes 1,2,3, then straight into OD. the new software lets it hit 4th instead of going straight into OD. 1,2,3,4,OD. shift quality improves substantially as well. it will feel like a whole new transmission. should be about $60-80 for the flash by itself. (consequently they have to flash the PCM as well for another update first)

ok, here is the final outcome.
the dealer says that the annoying knocking sound is normal wear and tear for a tranny with 100k miles on it. they said they did a fluid pressure test, and every test possible without tearing down the tranny. they said i can get a second opinion, but quite frankly - the 2004 laoner jeep grand cherokee make some (minor) tranny knocking sound too. I just think it is time to trade it in! thanks all for the insight.. as to answer the prior questions that you all wanted me to ask - the dealer said "hard ot say without looking at it" .. typical non-responsivenes from a dealership if you ask me. |
