I'd had some research issues over the fuel door, too, so...
A bit more research after that reveals that the 507s were made in two runs; the Revell kit is of a series 1 car, with the early (503-esque) dashboard and the fuel door before the trunklid, instead of on the right fender. I have no idea how many of the 250-or-so 507s were made in each series, but judging from the dashboards and fuel doors on the pics I've collected (an arbitrary sample, I know), this is the rarer type...
Also, there is in fact a 507 here in my town, in the Imperial Palace Auto Collection. However, it is one of three 507 chassis that did not get (or keep) the original body work...

Fascinating car, but not that much help to me in building a stock 507. But I should go look at it anyway...
