A mid-90s Infiniti or low end Lexus would probably suit your new job and provide enough daily driving, ass craddling comfort. Something in the $5000-$10000 range would be more than enough. And quite frankly you can find alot of nice cars well under that. You really don't have to spend that much to travel in "enough" style and a good amount of comfort.

I would say "Cheap piece of ****" and upgrade a Z32TT. But that gets really old after a very short while. Dropping $10,000 on a Z32 and then another $10,000 to upgrade the car from nose to tail, tires to t-tops all while you're driving some beater Civic sucks. Spend a little extra on the commuter car and be much happier.

Re: I almost don't care anymore...

I gotta be bias here, i said go out and get a cheap jeep. That way no matter how much snow you get, you will still get to work. Also, think about it, if you spend that kind of money on something nice, then end up fish tailing into a pole or ditch, then you are going to be sick just like you was with the prelude. Now if you have a 1000 dollar jeep, and you slide into a pole or ditch, then its just a grand and not 20k. Plus, you can beat it back out, and keep on driving in the snow.
Thats what i would do, plus you can do so many mods to the jeep. But i say again, if you beat up an expensive ride while driving in the snow, then you are going to be sick and out that much money. If you beat up a 1k dollar jeep from driving in the snow, well its a jeep you will still be able to drive it. Especially if you get an old CJ5 or a CJ7. Very tough rides.

Re: I almost don't care anymore...

I kinda have it narrowed down...sorta...CJ5/CJ7 (old...big...cheap)...Z32TT and just tough it out in the Z31T (it occured to me the other day...you always said you'd give your right nut for an SMZ...just gotta find one now...). Still looking at other stuff, but I'm kinda leaning toward one of those two options right now....and I'm telling you...if I can find an SMZ for a reasonable price, it'd be DONE...

Get a old Volvo and save your money tell you find a nice ZedTT then have 2 cars, a beater and class, bad weather and good. The best of both worlds, plus a Volvo parts are cheap.

Re: I almost don't care anymore...

Albert is dead on the money right there.... get a Volvo, like a 740 or 760 wagon so you can put things in it too like engine parts.... they are like miny trucks. That and parts are cheap and they are EASY to work on.

Hmmm...Forenza...how about no.

Volvo...I'll check it out.

CL...I actually thought about one of those. I like them. Kinda "big", but they look great.

Alright...I think I've made my mind up.

Went to look at a 1990 300ZX at a dealer the other day...auto...2 seater...GOLD...bleh. Had some DEFINATE tranny issues...wouldn't shift unless you let off the gas...not good.

Anyway...I drove into the lot and went to park when I saw it...a pearl white, 1995 Nissan 240SX SE. Look of the thing hit me like a ton of bricks. I LOVE the look of them from the front...always have. It's an auto with ~128K on it and it appeared to be in very good shape inside and out. I'm going to look at it again on monday when it's light out. It drove nice, rode nice, felt good...all that...it actually kinda reminded me of the Prelude but a little smooshier. Probably the COOLEST thing about the damn thing is the PRICE!! It's less than a THIRD OF WHAT THE PRELUDE COST ME!!! I was AMAZED!

So...I may pick it up on monday, I may not...we'll just have to see...

Re: I almost don't care anymore...

I've pretty much given up on the "winter car" thing...fuck it.

I'm also talking to the guy about getting this. I used to live out there anyway and haven't been back since...it'd be pretty cool to go out there. That's a bad ass car...he said he'd do $13,500 for it which I think is too much...I don't think I can get financing for it anyway. Oh well...I'll take the $5,000 one...

Re: I almost don't care anymore...

If you want a REALLY good winter car you can always get a Volvo V70R or a S60R the Volvo R car range is AWD and well frankly scarry for a Volvo, the S60R boasts 300HP with AWD, that puts it in the lines of the Scoobie STi!!!!! Granted its not as light but its a nimble and safer, its a Volvo after all.

Re: I almost don't care anymore...

Screw the "winter car" hunt. I tried that already and got a car I thought would do alright in the bad weather...VERY FIRST patch of ice on the roads sends me through the trees...fuck it...it obviously doesn't matter much.

Going to look at the 240SX tomorrow afternoon...might just drive it home...
