Re: 92 Accord idle problem!!!

You're right - we have two of you with two different problems in one thread. Confusing.

Re: 92 Accord idle problem!!!

DamienWC: Its probably the break pump thats putting a load on the engine and shifting it to the erratic idle. today it was so freakin cold outside, it took 30 min for my car to warm up, and it was going u and down the whole time... I was told its my thermostat that is stuck open, so the coolant circulates (when it shouldnt), causing a sensor to show a cold temperature, an other (for the engine) to show warm. so the ECU is constantly trying to adjust itself with the conflicting messages, thus resulting in an up and down. I bought a new thermostat today, gona change it when its a bit warmer, ill let you know what happened!

However, this lasts for a fiew minutes (the colder it is, longer it lasts), then it just dissapears and the engine idles rock stable. When i go on the highway and its cold outside, it stards the same odd behavior at idle, after i get off and am at a stop light after the exit. I was told this could be a sensor issue, so i thought I'd inquire about it to see if anyone else gets this odd behavior from their Accord! thanks for the reply
I guys, i'm also experiencing the exact same problems that you have, and i'm also in the process of searching some answers, (fast idle valve replace, same thing,, EACV replace problems seen to be less apparent)but recently it's been very cold in Montreal and the problem persist, i looking now around temperature sensor or something. If i found someting, i will let you now.

Re: Re: 92 Accord idle problem!!!

New to the Forum, but I have the same problem but the idle doent resume its normal idle at all. On start up it revs up and down but also at stoplights, stop signs, and basic idleing. In normal tempature to me is 80 to 100 degrees, I live in Texas, its not due to the weather. Cold or hot it has the same peoblem. I havent yet cleaned the sensors but when I do Ill be sure to post my findings.

If your looking at the egine from the fromt of the car, the sensor will be directly on the intake manifold. follow your air filter all the way up to the mainfold than a little more to the right and there will be an aluminum box looking thing connected to the face of the intake, with a hose coming out of it. that the sensor, it should be connected to the intake with two bolts.

I hope this helps you out - The IAC valve specifically controls the idle speed, but any malfunction or obstruction among these 3 valves (IAC, Fast Idle thermo, or starting air) could cause erradic idling

I'd check those first, it's easiest to do -- i had similar problems with my 93 and living in SoCali new that temperature wasn't an issue -- all i ended up doing was cleaning the IAC and adjusting the idle screw

This illustration from the 1900-93 honda accord service manual published by haynes... hope it what you need:

OK......... I know its been a while since anyone posted on this topic, but i've got another question relating to this issue. Yesterday I had to replace my starter ($180 f'n dollars by the way) and when I got the new one put on the idle problem was fixed. I turned the car off, turned it back on, and the idle problem is there again. My question is, why would the problem be fixed (even for a very short time) after I replaced my starter?
