fan turns with resistance when engine is warm and turns with a little less resistance when engine is cold.

The best way I have found to see if your fan clutch is good is to take a piece of cardboard rolled up and see if you can stop the fan with the engine running. If it shreds the cardboard...your good. If it stops the fan easily, its bad. My dad showed me that trick when I was 14.
