Re: I need help 400 rear wheel horse power is not enough

I'd still like to see a chart. Here's why I'm so skeptical:

Shot peened pushrods? Uhh, you mean polished/shot peened/ARP'd connecting rods, right?

420 lift cam? That's barely bigger than a stock 2.3L 4 cylinder cam.

Now, the fun part. If you are seriously making that HP out of that motor at under 6000 RPM, you don't have stage 3 4BBL cleveland heads. The stock cleveland 4BBL head had ports that were too big to be usable on the street i.e. under 7000 RPM. Flowed too much and killed torque production. 2BBL heads have about the right size ports but too open of a combustion chamber, requiring domed pistons. Not a big deal, but it's added reciprocating mass. Enter the "Aussie" heads. Small ports, closed chambers. Voila'! Big power.

That 750 is borderline too small for your motor. The combo I mentioned above would be fine, Clevelands breathe big for a 351 cubic inch motor. It would really pound out some torque if you got a 400M crank and had it turned under to fit your main journals, and got the right rod/piston setup. You'd have a 406, and running around 10.5:1 compression with the right cam/intake you'd get 450 HP pretty easy.

If you have a full roller motor that is balanced and blueprinted, I wouldn't be scared to rev it. If properly built that sucker would live in the mid 7000's to 8000 RPM...but your carb will choke it off that high.

BTW pics of my Cobra are at http://www.cardomain.com/id/mccobra94

I have run a current traction-hindered best of [email protected] MPH, running just over 300 HP at the crank. With a head swap, tremec trans, slicks, and some intake port work I expect to run mid-high 12s on a 3500 lb car.

well the sad thing is that it sounds like he hasnt done anything to the car . I thought he said some guy did all the work to it . who is driving this car at the track to get those times ? do they let 15 yr olds race. best thing i could tell you to do is sell the car . not sure if you are ready for that kind of power you say you have. learn all you can so when you are ready you can do as much of the work to your car as possible and go to sleep at night with a sence of pride

BTW when your head is done spinning after Ace's statement think of some new bedtime stories for us all
