Yeah i don't understand why the a/c would make it worse, and by the way its true only the chicks who know how to really drive, drive a camaro the rest drive a mustang and think they can drive I appreciate everybody thats trying to help me with this. It definetly gets worse with the a/c and like i said the rpm gauge is doing it too so i'm thinking its a little more complicated than just the speedo Anybody else who knows what it is feel free to let me know, Thanks

I have something 'similar' happening with my Tach. ( idiot guage. )

It's a POS I know but I had a new set up put in because I didn't like the white face guages. Anywho , My Tach will be at like 6500 at idle and when I take off..way past 7K..It pegs to the little stopper pin. after about 20 - 30 minutes of driving , It goes down to about 4500 rpm at idle...wts is that ?

Edited : Oh yes , when I turn my key over but not crank , it goes down to 0rpm , hits 7K then falls back down. When it starts , whackyness happens.

Does that particular vehicle have a voltage regulator for the cluster guage that might be worn out ? Electrical parts in vehicles are notorious for still maintaining 'connection' but being next to useless. I've seen fuses burnt black but not blown and they work but just barely enough to make the object function weird. Maybe fuses or relay fried up and not blown. So when you switch on the AC which draws a crap load of electricity from your vehicle , it would effect the voltage regulator and pretty much everything else. with amp voltage anyways.

Re: Hi new girl here with car problems

when my distributor started going out the rpm needle would jump around and if it was hot outside or i was in traffic or i turned the a/c on it definately worsened how the needle acted. i dont know about the speedo haning up at 20, probably need a new speedo

Re: Hi new girl here with car problems

First thing first, take it to the dealership or autozone if its still driveable, and have it run for codes. The on board computers are there to eliminate the very guesswork that is going on here. Just about everything on that car is monitored by the BCM and PCM, and about six other modules. When something goes wrong, the computers see it, and store an error code. This may or may not turn on the check engine light. First rule i learned in electronics diagnosis...

"just cus theres a code dont mean theres a problem, just cus there isnt a code dont mean there isnt a problem."

At the very least its a starting point.

That being said, my gut reaction to this is a VSS. could be the speedo, but typicly when those fail they either dont move at all, or lag behind. seeing as her speedo is computer controled it is more likely that it is doing exactly as its told, its just that its getting a bad signal. so it could be a PCM problem. but thats just guesswork, and guesswork is expencive, so i reiterate, have it scanned for codes as the first thing.

it could be anything from an alternator, voltage regulator, battery, instrument cluster and countless other electronic pieces. have someone put a computer on it. hopefully you can get it fixed

I used to work at autozone so i know everyone there, my engine light has been coming on but the codes its giving was the throttle position sensor and i fixed that and the other one is for the EGR Valve which i haven't replaced yet cause its 170 dollars i took it up there and hooked it up while it was acting up to see if it would throw a different code and it didn't. If it was the speed sensor it should be throwing a code or the computer and its not. I know my battery is fine i had the alternator checked today just to see (which i knew that was fine because i have a system and the car is charging fine) and that was normal. The car hasn't acted up all day and i have been driving it so i don't know. Maybe it won't happen again I am totally clueless on what was happening, about it being driveable its fine this has not affected how the car runs at all, even though i am a girl i do know a thing or two about cars, i have had all those tests run and nothing, this is why all this guessing is happening, this is why i'm confused, the computer isn't telling me anything
