Around 300 rwhp is when MR2s start breaking axles with hard launches.
Actually, we explode CV joints ... the actual axle stay intact. I had this lovely experience like many others and got to enjoy a tow truck ride home from the track  ATS Racing (click the photo in my siggy) makes upgraded chromoly CV joints to resolve this issues. I would suggest doing this as a preventive measure if you plan on "hooking up" your 300 rwhp to the ground. The upgrades are much cheaper than an axle. I was racing the last 2 years on 255/50/16 BFG Drag Radials. I just bought a set of custom drag wheels and mounted 275/50/15 BFGs in the back .... they, are huge.
