You probably already moved, but had some advice anyway. Autozone and Advance can hook up a diagnostic when the Service Engine lights are on, and it is pretty specific (last time mine came on briefly, it was "cylinder number 4 misfire", just had bad gas, clogged that injector or something). Depending on what the code is, you may or may not feel comfortable driving it long distance.
I have a 99, and it is great for road trips. I drive regularly from OH to SC, about twice a year. Put on 30K miles in the last year. Aside form the common electrical quirks most people seem to have, I say it is a reliable little car. And fuel efficient if you drive 40-55mph regularly. I beat out 32 MPG on the 3.5DOHC engine.
Just check the fluids, keep it maintained and it should get you there.
