I am the original poster of this thread and here we are a few years later and I still have my Riv. I need to make a correction to my post though. Aftermarket batteries became available at some point after I posted that. If you are reading this you probably already know that by now though!

Fortunately the Orange SERVICE ENGINE light has only come on for one issue in 15 years, and that was in 2010-2011 when the Evap solenoid (front of engine) started to fail/developed a leaky vacuum line. They replaced that 'vac motor' and some old vac hose with new tubing. I put ~2,000 bucks into the Riv every year according to my Service Record spreadsheet and stay ahead of the curve.
