Of the new ones out right now, which ones do you think are better Radeon or Geforce cards?

Re: Overclocking Athlon

Like I said, it depends on what radeon card you want, or what geforce card you want. "one of the new ones" doesn't tell me alot, I need model numbers.

Re: Overclocking Athlon

you cant just say what company generally makes better quality video cards? Like compare the best ones from both companies, which one would you rather have?

Re: Overclocking Athlon

GeForce 6800GT is the best from GeForce..

Radeon 9800 pro (As far as I know is the best) from Radeon.

Personal preference on what you want to go with, I would go with the 6800GT if I had 450 bucks.

Just a small correction the 6800 Ultra is the best however the 6800GT is the best buy. Is cheaper by 100 than the ultra but with very close perfomance numbers. Not to mention that it doesn't take two slots or require as much ridiculous power as the ultra.

From ATI the best is the X800xt platinum edition as the 6800 ultra equivalent and the X800pro as the GT equivalent.

What I would take is a 6800 GT(this coming from me: a huge ATI fanboy)

The 9800pro is from the previous gen, however now it is seen as the best bargain card.

well if you go latest gen then yes the 6800 Gt is around $350- 400

but previous gen the Ati radeon 9800 pro is still the best bet at $150-200

si it depends how much money you want to spend

not for a while, the X800s and 6800 are very recent and it will be another 6 months at least till we see a complete new gen

Re: Overclocking Athlon

I got an Apollo 3D THRILL 315 Pro Deluxe 128MB for about $50 (US). I have had no problems at all with it, even with graphic-intensive games.

do not "upgrade" to a 5200. you would lose performance over ur current gefore 4. the lowest card you should upgrade to should be a 5700 ultra or a 9600 pro. The 9600 pro would be a better buy than teh 5700 ultra. I would reccomend waiting for an agp version of the geforce 6600gt or go for a 6800 nu. The overall best buy however is the 6800gt. most performance for the buck and most of them OC to the same clocks as the ultra. If you want the best of the best, the x800xt pe is still on the top.

edit: on the note of overclocking, its not hard to do, there should be something in teh bios that says clock and voltage controls. You can adjust the freq of teh front side bus there. to overclock it, put that up in small incremints (no more than 5 mhz) then run a program call prime 95 for at least 12 hours. make sure the temperature doesnt exceed 60 C and that it completes without having any errors. if it does, then you have a succesful overclock. if not up the voltage a little (no more than 10% at a time) and repeat. i would not go above 1.8 v with that chip. but keep it under 60C, the lower the temp the better. most dont like to even exceed 50 C

there is rumor of a nvida fall refresh coming within 2 months and about 4 months for ati. both are rumored to include process shrinks. remember these are only rumors and not based on any real evidence, so dont get your hopes up.

Re: Overclocking Athlon

I would personally wait for the 6600GT to come out, it's going to run around $200, it's going to be here in just about a month, and it will be the best card for the money.

Re: Overclocking Athlon

Just for refrence, teh 6600 gt will perform around on par with the 9800 pro, but in most cases, it will perform better. It will be a while before its in agp form.
