Southern Cross:

Subaru Logo
Except the Subaru logo is the Pleiades star cluster which forms part of the Taurus constellation, the star cluster is called Subaru in Japan.

Nah... It's cuz Paul Hogan was their TV spokesman for AGES! He wasn't the only Aussie either. Pretty much the entire cast of each commercial was 'Aussie' and it always took place in the bush or outback.

And I've heard a different explanation for their logo. I've always heard that Subaru chose the logo because it's part of Fujitsu Heavy Industry, which is a conglomeration of 5 other companies, thus the 5 small stars. The large lone star is supposed to represent something else. It just also happens that Subaru is also the name of a constellation with similar numbered stars.

Interesting. Ever since their introduction here in 1994, the Subaru WRX has held absolute cult status and still does. It's actually pretty depressing because every man and his dog has one and there are SO many that the used car market is flooded, driving prices down to $13,000 AUD, or $7k US.

Even the oldest WRXs around my area is going for at least US $15k. They've hardly lost any value.

Re: car logo meanings

The US WRX is priced significantly cheaper than the Aus WRX. It entered the market at ~$45k in 1994 and dropped to it's current price of about $40k in 1999 IIRC.

For it's awesome potential it is depressing to see it so devalued in terms of price AND commonality on our roads. But I guess it had to happen becuase that is what Subaru marketing wanted.

Some what correct, after WWII the giant manufacturers who had made weapons in Japan were all split up - after U.S. occupation had ended, several companies that had resulted from the splitting of the Nakajima aircrafted company came together to form Fuji Heavy Industries - Subaru is both the japanese word for "unite" and for the pliedes constellation - so the badge actually has a double meaning, of the unity of the companies into one, and of the constellation.
The subaru name wasn't applied to any cars until 1958 - when the 360 (see sig and avatar) was introduced, as a "big brother" to Fuji's Rabbit motorscooters...
Fuji Heavy Industries until recently produced airplanes, railcars, busses, and trucks, but only their cars were sold under the Subaru name (excepting the car/truck Brat).

The badge only utilises the brightest stars of the constellation.

Re: car logo meanings

Darn, I wanted to see what the HECK Nissan was thinking with the Infiniti badge that looks a LOT like Acura... and nothing like the mathematical infinity... I'm lost.
