Re: 97 Civic DX Cracked exhaust manifold

I registered on this forum solely for this issue. EJ Hatch D16Y7 - bone stock except for a swapped EX tach cluster+armrest, Si Grille and aftermarket headlights. Persistent loud rattling began to develop, friend of mine suggested removing the exhaust heat shield. Upon doing so, I noticed a crack on the exhaust manifold. Drove around the block and noticed the rattling had actually worsened.

I'm more of a computer person, and am generally most comfortable doing cosmetic or chassis electric work on a vehicle. But I had to hunt down the root of this noise and was none to pleased to see a large crack on the manifold.

I'm no racer and am super broke, so I'll likely be getting stock replacement. But dang. Glad I found this forum, and it's nice to know this is a common issue and not something I messed up

Smile Re: 97 Civic DX Cracked exhaust manifold

I have the same O2 Sensor fail and cracked exhaust manifold on my 98 Civic. Has anyone had any luck cementing the crack with Permatex Hi Temp Repair Compound 26346? or with other on vehicle repair?

Update. I bought a product called HiTemp Steel by VersChem at Canadian Tire and cemented the crack. So far so good. The crack is sealed and hasn't re-appeared after a few days of driving. The product claims to be good to 2000F (1093C).

Update. The cement is holding and I just passed my emission test with flying colours! Car has 341,000 Km on it and running fine!
