I was shocked when this news was announced. Where I live there are Oldsmobiles everywhere...New and Old. And I was talking to a guy who use to sell Olds at a large dealer in town and he said they sold MANY Aleros.

I guess many wasn't enough...

I bought an Alero in 2000, and a few months after the bad news was out! I was really upset with GM and this really hurt the value of the car. I feel sorry for anyone planning on turning in their Olds for another car, because you're going to pay for it unfortunately.

Anyway, I loved my Alero and did plan on keeping it for another year or two, but the payments were too high because of recent changes in my life.

So, I turned it in for a 98 Buick Regal GS. I'm loving the 240 hsp and the extra roominess!

Yeah, Mercury isn't doing too well from what I've heard. Hek! Ford is struggling to sell cars, since the Firestone Tire escapade.

I think Mercury is trying to make a come back with the Maurader. It may have a lot of hsp, but it looks like a black Grand Marquis. They should've given it a whole new body style. Of course, that would cost them more money, so they did a G.M. clone thing.:alien:

Yeah, GM had to do it. Oldsmobiles used to be the best cars on the road. My first ride was an '87 Ciera Brougham handed down from my dad. Wish I still had it. I can still hear the roar of the Iron Duke (2.5L 4 Cyl.) in my sleep sometimes, and when I hear one on the road, I get the chills. But they don't make them like that anymore and I'm almost glad they're discontinuing now rather than later.

I live in Lansing,MI. The birthplace of Oldsmobile.
I started working on the assembly line at Oldsmobile in 1971.
We built only Oldsmobiles here until 1984,when GM made us just another GM assembly plant to build fwd cars.
As far as I'm concerned,Olds died then.
My first car was a '54 Super 88,that I bought in 1970 when I was 17.

I've had my 1968 Olds Toronado for 18 years now. I got a taste of this sadness when the dropped the Toronado from the line. Now, I can accept the passing of the entire line.
I would think that GM could find a successful market for cars that are comfortable, innovative, and fast.

Unhappy R.I.P. Oldsmobile

So sorry to hear that GM has Phased out the Olds.
Maybe there will be a reincarnation of a few models in later years, preferably the Cutlass or the Alero.

Oldsmobile has less than a year left in its life. Cutlass is long gone...Intrigue died last year...the Aurora ended its life this year...next summer, the Alero, Silhouette, and Bravada are gone.

Unhappy

Sad to really see them go.
They went through a great transformation the past couple years.
Especially the Bravada.
GM Should have kept the a few of the top selling olds rather than kill the whole Name.
I guess there in that garage in the sky along with the F Body Camaro and Firebird.

Sad

I agree with whoever said they should have left a couple of cars instead of killing the whole nmae.....I think oldsmobiles were startin to get better around the time of the news......werent they shooting towards the european market with their latest line-up or cars?....it looked to me like they were headed down the right path....they had collectors b4...now they really have some collecters. It's sad to see them go
