Re: What is a good gear Ratio for me?

well, im away from my literature right now, so ill back down on this one

i do know the 10 bolt for third and fourth gen cars are interchangeable, at least on the inside. the Borg Warner rear on the other hand is a 7.75in ring gear, and i thought was used in the 5.7L IROCs. maybe im wrong on this one, im not exactly in a great frame of mind right now, yall will have to be patient with me.

Re: What is a good gear Ratio for me?

Mid way through the year in 88 they converted to 28 spline. However after 88 You actually would still find some but not many 26 spline axles used on rear drum brake equiped cars

I have a Auburn Pro Locker which isn't exactly like the Detroit locker but same idea. and yes under hard turns with heavy throttle it makes a ratcheting sound but under coasting conditions you can barely hear it

"ratcheting sound" I thought it would be a cool sound like a flowmaster or blow off valve

Re: What is a good gear Ratio for me?

No the Auburn series unit uses clutch packs to lock the axles in place so you get a ratcheting sound other units might make another sound though. Some use bearing's so I'm not sure what they sound like

Re: What is a good gear Ratio for me?

Yes 3.73's are a good all around gear for a Auto and If you have a stick you can even go upto 4.10's without causing any major problems

Re: What is a good gear Ratio for me?

personally, if its a highway car, i dont recomend more than 3.42 or 3.45, depending on your rear, 10 bolt vs 9 bolt. if its gonna be a weekend play thing, then 3.73;s are fun, drag car, 4.10's

Re: What is a good gear Ratio for me?

2 series units are for use with 2.73 -3.08 gears and have a thinner seat and place the gears farther away from the pinion because the pinion gear is wider. 3 series units are 3.23 and up place the ring gear closer to the pinion gear. Richmond and Strange make gears with 3.23 and higher ratio's that will work with 2 series units though
