Yeah right, probably not as much as Toyota and Honda. So shutup. You have no clue how nice the Cobalt is. Like I said before this board caters to ricers and import lovers, like you.

Re: Intersting Info
Just like the Scion XB, with its center mounted Gauge Cluster. Car magazines called it revolutionary, but when it was in the Saturn Ion it was crap. Looks like someone padded their pockets on that one.

Re: Intersting Info
Sure is nice to see Chevy advertising a fuel efficient practical car at least. Seems like all we see on TV are the gas guzzlers, the H2 for sure. Hope the Cobalt/G2 sells well, this country sure needs to start going in that direction I think.

Re: Intersting Info
well they just developed the new hybrid transmission system. the electric motor is inside the transmision case, its currently offered in a full size silverado as an option. they have joined forces with i think chrysler, to develop the technology further into frontwheel drive applications. with this kind of packaging, there is no reason it wouldnt be applied to the entire linup of vehicles, lowering the fleet average economy ratings. Far more viable than the hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

Actually what they have now in the Silverado is just a 42 Volt electrical system that powers all the accessories and starts the car. The only way that the Silverado hybrid improves fuel economy is that the gas engine shuts down when sitting still and the batteries run the accessories. There is no electrical engine that powers or assists the gas engine. GM is working on making their bigger vehicles more fuel efficient first. They already have a full hybrid system in GM buses. In 2007 or so they will start offering full hybrid systems in SUVs and trucks. The same year they should also have a hybrid Saturn VUE, and Malibu, possibly others also. The joint Chrysler version will be used then.

scroll down to the hybrid section, click on flex power. The truck does indeed shut the engine off as you state, however it also uses the electric motor built into the transmitsion. It is described as being between the engine and trans, but having seen it, i would more describe it as being built into the transmission housing. it takes the place of the starter, and plays the role of the electric engines in a hybrid car, without the added bulk and complexity of the more popular setups.

Yeah just like I said, its a giant starter, nothing more. Its not a real hybrid.
