yeah a lot of places around here are down to about $80 bucks now, when the law first changed though the prices went from $20 to $120 because every one needed to buy the +$50,000 dyno.

Re: suitable (legal) engine swap for 240sx in ca

That sucks, it only costs a mandatory $25 bucks for emissions, why don't you guys register your cars in another state, and if you get pulled over, just say you comute their alot, that is what we do except, we use the outer counties with no emissions requirements, so the cops can't say shit.
Register your car with you cousins or aunts ADD in the next state.

The reason they have laws like that in california is because the place is already a disgusting place cause of the polution, they want to try to keep the air clean.

Re: suitable (legal) engine swap for 240sx in ca

I guess you are a friend of the enviroment. I see your point, but some of your laws are boder line violations of consumer rights, I mean, if I want to put chrome on my headers, or put red valve covers, that shouldn't be their problem, as long as I pass smog, it is my car, my choice. You don't heard the Law saying anything about you painting the interior of your house do you???? but if you put a naked pic of Pamela Anderson on your door, you will be asked to remove it. The main thing is minimizing pollution, so cosmetic shit shouldn't have anythiong to do with them. Now if you put a turbo and or swapped another engine and pass smog, that should be the end of it.
I understand what they are trying to do but some of the ways they are trying to do it is plain Bull shit. Hell some performance enhancers produce lower emissions.
Like I said, I would register the car in another state and they can kiss my ass with their smog shit.

I don't mind the environment, I mean I'll take the smog control off my car if it get's me more power, but I was simply stating why they have those laws, which some are good and some, like you said, are greatly exagerated. But those laws are made by people who don't know anything about cars like video game bans are made by people who don't play games.

Also, they have them really strict in cali because of places like LA where it's surrounded by mountaisna nd the smog has no where to go, like Mexico City, but wide open places don't need those laws.

The california smog laws make no measurable reduction in pollution compaired to more traditional smog laws. If we were interested in reducing pollution we would target industry which creates somewhere around 70% of our local pollution. With the Millions of dollars wasted on purchasing those dynos, we could have refit several thousand high polluting industrial buildings.

Of course local industry does not want to pick up the tab for their pollution, so the state passed the problem onto consumers.

If I recall correctly, somewhere around 4% of the smog in our skys comes from passanger vehicles. It's estimated traditional smog laws reduce that by 40%, not too shabby. The additional laws reduce it probably less than 1% additional percent.

I'm all for clean skys, My complaint is that we waste all this money when it could be FAR better spent to reduce pollution. (also this would make it far easyer to turbo your car =) )

Re: suitable (legal) engine swap for 240sx in ca

I definately Agree with 2112, There are tons of plants out there poluting our skies, but since they pick the campaining Tab, they go scotch free, and we are robbed of our most god given right, to boost our cars to obscene powers and break the sound barrier on the "Blue shield Roads", or die trying.
I say "BULL" tell that Ex-terminator governor of yours to put a cork in it and lift those stupid laws, or else, he will see a real life version of his movies, Terminator 4: Rise of the RICERS.

...........We'll be back...............screeeeech!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey I'm not saying they are right, I know that cars are way down on the list of problems, but they are high on the list of easy solutions to shut the people up.
