It's a better idea for people to just start coming up with something different to say.

The "mainstream" argument is pathetic. "Drifters" bitch and moan about how no-one respects the sport. Finally some people with the proper werewithal step up to put up the money and the promotion to create an organization that DOES garner respect from the motorsports establishment and all of a sudden it's the worst thing in the world. Oh my god, drifting is bringing tons of crowds of people who just want to pay their money to spend an afternoon seeing cars slide around, how horrible.

Then you have the "domestics" argument. Let's face it, if the sport consisted entirely of ten to twenty year old Toyotas, Nissans, and Mazdas, no one would notice. But if a brand new Viper and a brand new Pontiac are there, all of a sudden people are thinking this must be big. The big companies are here with their new stuff, this must be important.

And as far as the argument that Formula Drift doesn't know what they're doing, IT IS THE FIRST YEAR THESE PEOPLE HAVE SANCTIONED DRIFTING EVENTS! For christsakes, do you know how man racing series have died before they even got off the ground? I personally saw the Rebman Trucking 305 Sprint Asphalt Series die in two years, and they had a top flite corporate sponsor, full tire support from McCreary, and a 16 event race calendar.

We have four events this year that went off practically without a hitch. FD proved they could create a safe series, a competitive one, and a profitable one. Now they're coming back with an extended schedule for 2005, new rules packages, and we're looking at a year of growth. Four events and they're biased, sold-out, blind, or just plain stupid.

And, you know what, it also doesn't help that nobody is in here giving any info on D1, or Drift Showoff, or the Scandinavian or British drift series, or US Drift, or the D1 Driver's Search. Hell, no one has even bothered to get excited about the D1 GP at Irwindale in December.

It's really sad how few people in here are actually ENTHUSIASTS and how many are just net posers interested in showing off how JDM they are.

sadly, there are alot of people like that in this forum.

but it's also a case of personal opinion.

people have the right to not want a domestic in the sport, they have the right to bitch and moan. they have the right to think what they want. and nothing anyone can say will really sway their opinion.

i personally am not a net poser. but i think what i think, and strongly believe in what i believe in, and no-one will change that but myself.

with that said, i don't think anyone was really complaining about the sport not getting enough respect...most people are AGAINST the idea of drift going mainstream, rather then FOR.

I guess I'm a net poser for now since I don't have a car lol. I've quietly sat back and read several articles in mags and here and at drifting.com. I think it's cool that they have the Viper's and what not in there. Mixes it up a bit. I mean it is on american soil right? Then why not get some competition. I'm hoping when I get out to California I can start going to drift events and what not. I'm not saying I know everything about drifting or even techniques but I think it's an interesting sport and would love to try it one day. So please keep me posted on whats goign on with who's winning and what not because I'd like to know. Even if you want to PM me since you don't want a large bon fire to start ;-). Have fun out there guys and be careful.
