Re: ENGINE Swap

go 350 in it. if you get a trans, go 350 turbo. not 700r4. the 400 turbo will fit but you need to cut the fire wall back, pain in the ass. you want the JTR Chevrolet S-10 Truck V-8 Conversion Manual. dont start the job with out it.

Re: ENGINE Swap

there is a site... its http://www.gmpartsdepot.com/crate_motor.htm you can buy many motors there, but they are all rebuilt to bran new specs. they have a 4.3 on there for around 2 grand, and they have supercharged 2.2. there are also a ton for v8's but some of these engines can get very exspensive, just so you can go and browse around to see the specs on the engines and give you a better idea of the kind of power each motor will give you.

Re: ENGINE Swap

I do not know how old this post is but has anyone who answered actually done this swap?? It does not sound like it. I have put a V8 w/ 700R4 in my 95 S-10 P/U and a V6 w/ 5spd in an 87 Blazer. The V8 fits 94 and up P/U's easier than older but it is a lot of work to make the right size raditor fit so the engine will cool. The V6 is a direct bolt in with factory parts, newer radiator ( I used a 91 ) fits with only minor mod of moving the A/C lines and using the shroud from a 91. As to trans, stick with the orginal type just newer. Makes things easier. If anyone wants to respond to me email is [email protected]

I also have a 1987 s-10 with a 500 ci Caddy motor/trans mounted in the P/U bed. A real head-turner.

The v6 swap is easy. If you want any help, just ask me.

Re: ENGINE Swap

I have done this swap in the past and the major reccomendation I can give is to use a short-shaft water pump. This will gain you about 1" to 1 1/2" at the front. I did not have to cut anything out to make engine and trans fit. I used a 3-core rad w/ electric fans and put it in the orignal location.
The only thing I had to do was hammer the trans tunnel a bit for clearance on the transmission. I also did not use any aftermarket kit. I made my own mounts and welded them directly to the frame.

Re: ENGINE Swap

I'm in the works of small block swap on my 94. It isn't as easy as it looks. If you have no mechanical skills then don't do it!

A 4.3 is a direct bolt in kind of. You'd have to have the correct harness, motor mounts and trans since the 60* & 90* and 4 cyl all have different bolts patterens. Also the trans cross member isn't the same and drive shafts.

The JTR conversion book doesn't say that it's easy and thier right! You could do some half ass hack job if your into that but if your doing something major like a V8 swap do it right! I've seen way to many hack jobs done and I shack my head in anger.

Re: ENGINE Swap

swapping a v-8 engine into a blazer will require a new tranny, either way you will need a new tranny, however i think the v-6 would be easier on gas, depending on whats done to it and how easy he is on the pedal, however a v-8 would give you unmistakable power over the v-6, its your choice, however if you want a v-8 in a s-10 truck or blazer, and you have 3 grand, personally i would just look on ebay and buy the truck with everything swapped already. otherwise if you wanna keep the truck you already have, a turbo wouldnt be such a bad idea, however there is alot involved in a turbo, depending on the pressure you want to run, your lookin at internals, not to mention running oil lines and stuff and possibly an intercooler if you really wanna make power with a turbo. thats juat one mans opinion though.

Re: ENGINE Swap

V8 will have the same economy or even better than a V6 seeing it won't be working as hard.

Not sure if I'll get in trouble for posting a link to another forum but this might help. Check out http://www.v8s10.org/forum/index.php. It is a site strictly set up for a V8 into S-10 conversion. I myself am planning on doing this b/c I am getting a 350/400 turbo trans for free. I just have to rebuild the engine. I have been doing extensive research on anything and everything for my truck for the past few weeks. There is a lot of thought that needs to go into it and then you have to ask yourself are you willing to do it. Myself, I am looking forward to it and the knowledge I will get out of it. Granted, the fact that I have never attempted anything of this magnitude before will make it a challenge, but a fun challenge. Good luck in doing your swap. Btw.. I would go with the V8 over a V6. There are some posts on the board linked above that talk about gas mileage difference between the engines. From what I recall the difference was very small, if any at all. Put the V8 in and go dust some kid with a few grand invested in making his car look cool.
