Yeah, they just told me that Mr. T bought it, and I was kinda... you know, questioning that. It sounded kinda weird to me. He seems like the kinda guy that would rather drive a primer black full size Chevy Van with a red stripe down the side of it and spoiler on top.

these should work soon... uploading. heh, 56K.
they're kinda big, but I wanted em that way... shows more detail.
I noticed those three little vent things on the top of the front fender. they're not in the textures, and they don't show up in the mesh, so I don't know where they're coming from. They only show up at certain angles though.

Yeah - I'd bet the "Mr. T" comments were just smoke being blown. Given that this car has had so many "issues" it wouldn't surprise me if you don't get the real story on it, especially if you aren't a serious customer looking to purchase one. If you do get some info out of the contact who knows the car so well, we'd love to hear about it.

As for the images you posted, #2 makes the car look a bit too short past the engine cover - I could be wrong of course... I don't have a reference photo of the top of the car handy here, but I'll look when I get home. The #3 photo makes it appear that the rear of the car is a bit wide, but it could just be the angle/view of the shot. I realize it can't all be perfect based on limitations of the software/game engine, but those are the things that caught my eye.

Re: Need help finding out about different colors for F1 Roadcars

I was just at Fox Valley Motorcars and asked everyone I could if they knew anything about the owner, chassis number, or anything and they all said it was a very long time ago, and it was only there for a couple days so they didn't have any info on it.

Well, I called FVMC, and talked to a guy named Mike about the car. They said he was the guy to talk to. I'm still waiting on the chassis number; he's going to call me back.

History of the car in the US...
It was brought to America from England (don't know who) for Track Use only. Here's where the legal problem starts. The fellow that brought it over for Track use only, attempted to sell it to another guy through Fox Valley Motor Cars. FVMC never actually had the car, they were the medium between the two (for some odd reason). The Illinois DOT sent the sale through, however, and forced the new owner, to ship it back overseas (to Europe, specifically, England). So there you have it. Hopefully I'll have word on the chassis number pretty soon.

Well the chassis number on the car isn't really a mystery - it's #069. Duesey, someone I consider to be a very credible source, saw the car in person inside Paul Cherry's garage (the whole story is here somewhere) and confirmed it a very long time ago. If it has indeed been sent back to England, that would be news as the last report was that it was still being held in customs somewhere in the USA.

Oh, I forgot to add, this car never went through Amerispec. That I think was the issue the DOT had with it.

By the time #069 got to the USA, the Amerispec importation method had been squashed by the DOT, so there was no chance for this car or it's US owners to take advantage of it.

Also, by that time, DOT's "Show&Display" was firmly in place, and with this car being a 1998 model year F1, it did not qualify for "S&D" expemption based on the fact that it was built after 1995. There really was no legal way to import the car under any permanent status at that time, and the methods that were available for import for it (such as under a racing-only provision) don't allow for the car to be sold while it's here.

The "Show&Display" guideline has since been modified to include F1s built after 1995, but that didn't happen until long after this car was apparently seized.

Here is Duesey's account of his experience with #069:

That was a very interesting read! But I do know this car was at FVMC for at least a short while, because I sat in it. That same day, I also sat in an F40, and the new (at the time) Diablo 6.0

Do you recall exactly when that was? Duesey's timeline puts the car here in the USA in roughly 2001.

I know it was there at FVMC too, as there are photos of it outside their store with at least one of the men who owned it in the photo. When you were there, was the car inside, on display? I'm guessing you don't have any photographs of it from that day?

Also, are you sure you sat in this car so recently? I think you had said it was a year and a half ago or so? It seems to me that to fit within the timeline we've established that it would have had to have been more than 2 years ago when your encounter occurred. Not doubting your story in any way, just trying to put the pieces together.

Yeah, it might've been three years or so. If it was 2001, I'm guessing probably about mid to early summer. I've been there 5 times (road trip), but the first time I went there, I went there to see the McLaren. The car was inside, in the Lamborghini room (most north-eastern room of the store). It was in the middle of the room, facing directly to the front of the store.

No I don't have pictures, unfortunately, as I don't have a camera, digital or otherwise.

Heh, its weird trying to remember things from that long ago (I don't have that great of a memory) but I don't think I could forget sitting in the car

Cool - it's a shame you didn't get any pics. Very few good ones exist of that car. As you probably read in Duesey's thread, he didn't take a camera with him because he didn't want it to look like they really were just speculators. It's a shame too, because he takes some really nice photos.

Anyway - maybe you haven't seen these shots? You should recognize this interior.

Here's some other photos of the car taken outside Fox Valley. In this first shot, you can see Paul Cherry - he's second from the left:

This interior treatment on the side seats is very similar to what would be found inside the LM or any GTRs now converted for road use:

A very unique exhaust treatment - this is the only car I have seen it on. It's similar to what you would find on the LM, but does look a bit different, and in this case, the parts have been polished. I'm not sure if it's a factory mod, or something custom. Maybe someone else knows... I do know one thing - without the catalysts that normally reside in this area, I wouldn't imagine that the EPA would have let this one fly under any circumstances.

And finally - the largest version of the exterior shot known to exist. You can blow it up further in an image program, but it starts to lose quality pretty rapidly.

Hope you like the pics, and I hope they are indeed new for you!

Thank you for the pics! I'm going to add them to my already large collection on my HD. I have only seen the very bottom picture. It's a larger version of the one FVMC had on their site.

And I'm assuming it wasn't there very long... Those shots must've been 1 or 2 days difference from the time I went there and saw it. In those pics, its right in front of the Lamborghini room. And it was in the middle of the Lambo room when I saw it. They reserver the Lambo room for their very special cars. Ferrari 355's, Lotus Esprits, Elises, Viper, Ferrari 360's, Panoz, Cobras, NSX's, etc... are all in the much larger main room.

F40's, F50's, Diablos, Murcielagos, Gallardos, and McLarens all go in the Lamborghini room.

heh, I know this looks funky, but here is a pic of 1 mclaren photoshopped with 9 of the colors I've done for it. I think the AMG green velvet (second from right) is a little too dark, and the Yquem (in between white in yellow) looks too red there, but it looks to orangish in-game.

http://diablosixoh.8m.com/multicolormclaren.jpg

And here is... Chassis #036 I think the blue is too dark, it definately needs to be less "saturated" and still a little lighter. But I got the cool little McLaren shield. I'm working on the high mirrors, but my Zmodeler is not wanting to accept NFS car.o meshes right now...
