The guts of my argument is that the man is a skilled politician with current and relevant insight into how politics is conducted.,and as such, is qualified to pass judgement on the decisions made by his peers.

On the other hand the opinions of swift boat conscripts are worthless.Disliking your senior officer thirty years ago hardly qualifies anyone to judge whether or not someone that they haven't spoken to in decades is capable of to leading a country back into the realms of civilised democracy.
