Don't buy from Relatives (Long)

I had a gentlemans agreement to buy this house. The guy a cop was giving me the house for such and such amount but didnt want to deal till spring. Well we put our house on the market got screwed on the selling price cause we really didn't have much time to wait for better offers. THEN he up's the price by 15k cause he got a better offer. I was maxed to I couldn't do it. So now we are homeless and had to hurry and find a home. We found one signed the papers and then the lady backed out. ?? What will happen next to screw up this deal??? My wife got a hold of the cops wife and told her about his trick and she reamed him out big time. She had wondered what had happened to us. He never told her what he was pulling. We got into the house for our agreement price!! He never made eye contact in any of our visits for paperwork signings. It is a wicked big investment whether with family or not so protect YOURSELF. Later problems are yours not theirs!
