the only way i know to test it would be to install yours into another car that is running. of course it would have to use the same one or compatible . if the running car starts yours is good.

Re: 89 Mustang LX (HELP!?!)

I didn't notice if anybody covered it and I also don't know if an '89 has one or not but my son's '91 had a similar problem. Engine would turn over but never start one day (or week) and then it would start. The problem on his was his crankshaft sensor was bad.

Re: 89 Mustang LX (HELP!?!)

Good point. A car will not start with a bad crank sensor. The crank sensor reads "pulses" from the pulse ring. This is what tells the injectors when to spray (I beleive, its late and I dont remember exactly but I'm pretty sure thats what it does).

If this was the prob, would the car be getting fire and where would this be located at? is it easy to change? do u have to relieve the preasure in the gas lines to change this?

many questions,

Re: 89 Mustang LX (HELP!?!)

I'm guessing this is a 4 cylinder car if it has a crank sensor and a MAP sensor...but if it had a dist. cap and not a coil back it shouldn't have a crank trigger, it uses a PIP in the Distributor.

Have you run codes to see if it throws any? a bad module or a bad Primary Ignition Pickup will throw one, usually a MAP sensor will too. Usually, though, a bad MAP will simply cause the car to run really crappy.

When you turn the key on do you hear a hissing or a "Wheeeeeng" in the rear of the car (the fuel pump coming on)?

When was the last time the fuel filter was replaced?

I'm kinda batting at air here, not much info has been giving.

I am assuming the car cranks but does not start, has a full tank of gas, a new set of properly gapped spark plugs and new wires, cap, and rotor, and a new TFI module.

Re: 89 Mustang LX (HELP!?!)

4" piece of wire, find the EEC test connector, wire the small single connector to the big connector. The one to wire it too: Hold it so there are 2 plugs on top and 3 or 4 on the bottom, plug your wire into the top right. Then get in and turn the key on, and read the flashes of the Check engine light. Your Chilton's manual should have what the codes mean.

BTW an '89 four cyl is EEC III not EEC IV...
