just thought I'd throw in my two cents worth; as mentinoned before, I also think the 350 "was" one of, if not the best engine made. my first vehicle was an 82 chevy truck with a 350, my mother bought it new, and then sold it to me when I turned 16. when I got it, it had 350K miles on it. I drove it for another 100K (450K on origional engine) before I decided get a little more performance, and swapped engines. anyway, even at 450K the engine still ran like a top.
my biggest complaint is that they don't make 'em like they used to. it dosn't matter what brand, chevy, dodge, or even ford, back in the 60's, 70's, and even into the 80's, trucks were trucks, not car wana bees. they rode rough, did't get great milage, and in most cases did't have all the frilly options, and were actuailly used for work, not to haul the kids around and go to the store. I kick myself almost daily for ever selling my old chevy, there is no way that the truck that I have now, or any newer truck for that matter, could hold up as well or last as long as that truck did.

Ford dropped their 300 six what were they thinking? One of the best engines you could have in a truck. I agree they don`t build them like use to . I do think over all they are better today than ever. Somethings are not for the better ,most are.I personally think when fuel injection was added to the old engines they became too reliable so the companies cheapened them up. Especially true for the automatic transmission, lots of problems.

Exactly. Everything was built so well that vehicles never had to come back to the dealership after they were purchased, and the dealers weren't making any money that way. They solved that by designing things so that they break, and make it so difficult to do yourself that you have to bring it back to the dealer and give them money...

yeah your right, i think any american engine will last a good amount of time especailly if taken car of i've got a 96 dodge ram 5.2 with 200k+ miles on it and the only problems i've had with it is the water pump, looking for a engine swap with a 67 440,but as far a DC i think chevy and ford should duck and hide cause with DC looking into a 6.1 liter HEMI there might be some problems for a while with it making almost as much h.p. as the original 426 hemi, but it seems like Chrylser has always been on top of the engine performance game.

Here's a fun fact. The very first 350c.i. engine wasn't made by brand X. Chrysler was the first to make it. I believe it was 1957, 350 cubic inch, "Golden Commando" engine with two Carter AFB four barrel carburetors, rated at 305 horsepower.
