I'd go with the 330i any day (actually, the 330Ci). I'm genuinely suprised by the positive reaction to the IS' styling in here. Am I the only one who finds it down right boring? It's your typical 3 box layout with little, if any, attention to fine details. Where are the subtle crease lines that the 3-series sports? The only design detail on the Lex worth mentioning are the clear lenses, which are fine but they don't make a great looking car. The front is just your basic design with no imaginative headlight treatment or spoiler design. In fact, I can't think of anything else but a boring rectangle when I think of the IS.

As for the performance, it's fine but from what I've read the 330 still has it beaten.

The gauges are cool in the IS, but I'd get sick of them really quickly. It's actually funny saying that because all the mags say that "young buyers" will like the gauges. I'm 21 and I find them excessive and tasteless. Cool, maybe, but still excessive and tasteless.

Plus, you've gotta give the BMW credit for being the pioneer in this field. Everyone is copying them, so they must be doing something right... and Lexus still hasn't done it "more" right than BMW!

seeing as the IS series is based on the BMW E36, and that E46 is a step up from E36, that should tell you a lot.
to drive the BMW is superior, and that engine is simply wonderful.
330i

cheers,
jay

looks i think the bmw has a little better look.
the lexus i like the rear lights. i know most people dont, but the altezza was the very first car to come with these new looks so i really like it.
howwever i would get the lexus. even though there is not much power, it is a lot easier and better to tune to get more power

IS300 only if I can have the 2JZ-GTE in it...if we are talking about aftermarket support and modifiability (a word?)...then IS300 anyday. But if we are talking stock vs. stock...then the BMW takes it...it's a little M3....hehehe...or an M3 in training. I am sure there are things out there for a 330i...but more so for the M3 than the 330i...which is kinda of a new engine and not sure how the market is supporting it.

I'd go with BMW , you're getting annoyed because there are so many of them , but this has to have a reason. The BMW eats the lexus , and it's more fun (manual tranny)... Anyway , audi S4 for me...
