Lame, if you havent noticed we tell people when they do something stupid (eg racing on a bent rim) but they always know it's stupid before hand and what we say or don't say is not going to stop people from doing things at the spur of the moment, thats just the way people are for good or ill. People do what they will, but I believe this particular forum helps by providing information, which is always a good thing, just like questioning the morality of street racing and not being afraid of flaming.

Re: Is the street racing forum a good idea?

there's a difference between caution in having the thread because of litigation and caution on a moral basis.

the subject of "did you race cause the forum made you?" is very different to "does having somewhere to talk/compare encourage racing?" mainly on a basis of whether it affects your public liability....

does mcdonalds say their coffee is hot cause they it might burn? does saying it's hot stop it burning? NO
they say its hot because if someone stupid enough comes along they will be held responsible for their customers responsibility in court. A disclaimer would be purely legal... if it held up.

having said this i couldn't help noticing Razor getting quite peeved over the whole thing, while i don't want to get banned for disagreeing, i think he probably could have done a better job of the argument, this is a discussion forum after all and i would hope that everyone here can accept (if not agree with) other peoples opinions, as other peoples opinions.

no inanimate objects don't kill... but theres a reason they don't hold many archery (or car races) in crowded shopping centres....

Re: Is the street racing forum a good idea?

There is a disclaimer at the top of this forum. Street racing doesn't kill people, idiots do. I say the forum is cool. I know a couple of my parents friends were killed racing and one of my friends rolled his car racing. Does that make it something that we shouldn't be able to discuss? No. Most of the people on here guide others by telling them that speeding in a residential area is stupid, but does that stop them. No. Just like the thread at the top of the forum clearly states that street racing is not condoned here, but that doesn't stop most of us from doing it? No. I know I do it. And it wasn't because I saw some movie or read something on the internet. I love racing because I got a gokart when I was six and put the pedal to the floor every time I got on it and it was never fast enough. Same thing on bicycles. Same thing in cars. Freedom of speech allows this forum to be here. Nobody is forced to read anything or reply to anything anyone says. If you don't like it, leave.

Also who says that these are not just stories made up in our heads? "fictional race stories." If it accually came down to someone being in trouble for streetracing, nothing that came from the internet could possibially be held up in court. Espiacally a forum like so. Not solid enough to be used as evdience.

Sory it was the only thing that came to mind, didn't want to name names but I figured an example was needed. I should have used myself as an example, it's not like I don't do stupid stuff on the road also and thats the point, I would have done the same thing even though it would be "stupid", it's my choice.

While a valid question and concern was raised it was answered. Simply put you can't hold a forums liable for your actions. It is no different than reading about it in a book, seeing on the TV, or the movies. Even making reference to that is purely ignorant and subjective without thought.
It is totally different if you seek legal advice and are told you are within your rights to speed or drive recklessly. I've been down this road already on other forums where concerns were raised and legal advice was sought.

People have to remember this is the internet. If you don't like a particular are of a forums then don't go in there, don't post etc. While yes discussions are always welcome but when it is answered I see no point in beating a dead horse. It serves no purpose but to drag more people into eventually turning what should be a fairly straigh forward issue into a total cluster fuck.

Peeved? Not hardly if I was you would have seen a new title under names called "banned". It was sorted out in PM.

At the end of the day Igor is ultimately responcible for the forums. We as moderators are here to keep the peace and things flowing. We can not add or subtract sub forums only monitor them.

So in saying that I see absolutely no need to continue this thread. Thank you to all those who had input during the time.
