The simpsons live in Kentucky. It was said by Matt Groening himself in an issue of TV guide.

Umm they've said Illinois quite a few times.. unless that changes with their floorplan

I thought they said it was in Virginia... Basically they fooled you into thinking it was in your state by taking a very common county/city name and making references to each one in their shows. I.E. the springfield in the simpsons is similar to the one in VA in that the springfield mall they have in there is very similar to the springfield mall here. also Shelbyville is like West Virginia, neighbor to Virginia yet they are seen as lower classed and have the notion that people marry their cousins in West Virginia. I'm sure the Simpsons also make references to the springfield in kentucky and illinois also. Matt Groening had said he will never reveal the state, instead he just keeps clues and fans guessing. My guess it's all springfields all over the nation

anyways, in the "Behind the Laughter" episode of the Simpsons, they distinctly were said to be a family from Kentucky. that's all i know. i also heard somewhere that 35 out of the 50 states have a Springfield, so who knows?

I think there is a Springfield in every state. And yes, they said that they are a "Northern Kentuky Family". LMAO I don't know what that one guy was babling about!
