Maybe it was my explanation of the story that is wrong.

There is only ONE person at the fork in the road. That ONE person could be from either tribe. You need to ask a SINGAL question that will get you to the correct tribe whether that person is going to LIE or tell the TRUTH.

What question will get you to the truth telling tribe?

if its a liar at the fork and he asks if he should go left then he'll say no, but the truth person would say yes... but! he doesn't know if hes lying or telling the truth so he wouldn't know if he should go left or right still

its an opinion question so each tribe wants him to go a different direction making your question not work



and now for whoever said something about the cubs... yes that would tell you if he was lying or not, but you only have one question and your one question doesn't help you choose a direction, it only helps you figure out if hes a liar or not... thus not solving the problem
