The BBR kits are pretty nice and build quite easilly. However for real detail you have to get the Feeling43 kit to go with it. That adds a new body with opening doors, hood and trunk with complete detail. PLenty of $$$ though!

I was kinda wondering that too. Any kit would be great...no matter what the scale.

What's that probe that's sticking out of the hood?

Its a Pitot tube.

http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/K-12/airplane/pitot.html

A device used to measure true airspeed (as opposed to wheel/tranny/gear speed which is affected by traction).

Re: Le Mans Contest Entry :Ferrari 550 Maranello LM

I'm actually quite familiar with pitot tubes as I trained as a pilot for a few years before money ran out (mostly sailplanes - stick and rudder all the way) but I didn't see a lot of use for them on a car, though your explanation helps. Wouldn't a slip angle also affect the measurement? I guess it's not a drifter, though....

One of these Ferrari's is my second entry, a curbside BBR kit, I was keeping it a surprise though as it may have some nice details, not neccesarily the model but the display!

Yes, but the software takes that into account.

They download the data and run it through the program to determine "true" speed.

I've only ever seen slip angle meters on F-1 cars...and they were optical (really neat pic of the FW26 with an optical slip engle meter hidden under the nose...but the light pointing down onto the track gave it away!).

This is a model, right? Where are the side mirrors?
