I have this problem too sometimes

I'm 99% sure it is the cruise control cable that runs over the engine. It is pretty loose and is only held in by a bracket that gives it room to shift and move around. Depending upon how it is laying on the engine, I think it bounces and hits the block.

Do you have your defrost on when it happens? Could be the AC compressor cycling off and on if you do, since it operates when in defrost mode. That's the only thing that I can really hear or feel up front when sitting still.

Speaking of Defrosting... when I hit my rear defrost button in the morning, especially when it is a cold day it will jam my hazard lights on... Ive yet to take the time and figure it out.

I would hit the dealer asap. The same noise happened to me about 3 weeks after I bought the truck (Jens had the same problem). It was the wiring harness that at first was hitting the rear left wheel well..after a while it sounds like you are rubbing two pieces of styrofoam together which means it has become wedged between.

The harness had rubbed a hole somewhere up on my wheel well adn they had to weld it 9not sure what they did). The dealer said that they "fix" about every 3rd X with this problem yet no recall was considered.

Try to locate the thumping noise and mention the above when you go to, hopefully a new dealer.....premium Bwaaaahahaha i would have had him in a head lock giving out noggies had he told me that

Welcome to the best Board around !!!

Well, OzXterra wins the prize. After going over every part of the truck with a fine tooth comb, it turns out that the battery was loose. Tightened it up and voila....no more thumping. Thanks everyone for all your great suggestions. I'm loving reading all the posts on this board and learning so much about my new truck from all of you. Honestly, after seeing so many incredible pics of the 4X4 club expeditions and weekend adventures, I find myself wishing I had gotten a 4X4 so I could go too. Thanks for making me feel so welcome.

Glad it was an easy fix. Mine was loose and I also had a heck of a time wrangling the setup when I upgraded to a heavy duty diehard battery that didnt quite fit.

Getting airborne on a trail in the North Cascades didnt help tighten things either (I learned I needed new shocks that day...)

In relation to my defrost/hazard issues - I think I have cracked a light in the back and it is shorting a freaking out the system.... cleaned up and seems good now.

Dude - its "Vegemite." Damn good stuff too. Makes Americans gag most of the time though. Probably not bland enough...:o

Not as bad as that English "Marmite" though.....

Then again, the sight of peanut butter and jam together makes me feel ill.

Hehe, I use to think the song was "where women blow and men plunder!" :o

'course I use to think Elton John's Benny and the Jets went "she's got electric boobs, a mohawk too,..."

What can I say, I was like 7 when that song was popular!

What do you win? Weeeeeeeeeeeell, if this was "The Price is Right" I'd say "you win... A BRAND NEW CAR!!!"

BUT

Since I can barely afford my own, you actually win the honor of *looking* at a *matchbox* version of the car at Wal-mart. Heh heh heh. :silly2:

Actually, all I can offer as a prize is my most heartfelt thanks

Hex
