Re: I'm back with PICTS--B18C swap & Dynamat
Yeah the Syracuse cops are a-holes. I'm really surprised he didn't give you a ticket, they love to give out tickets. I'm sure he was mad because he knew your car would kill his; they're all cocky like that. But if they catch you racing they don't hesitate to impound your car and give you a ticket for racing. There are mostly just "riced" out cars there but then again there are some crazy fast cars there too. There are a lot of turbo'd civic up there, some WRX's and a couple Evo 8's that stop by there some times. Definently worht checking out if you ever get the chance.

Where did you get the foam pads at though? I've been looking for something of that nature to put in that exact place. Car looks good... did you have the engine installed, or did you do it yourself?

Re: I'm back with PICTS--B18C swap & Dynamat
hatchback si: The dynamat definitely reduces road and engine noise...that's not to say that i can't hear the vtec sceam when it kicks in, but tire noise on the highway, rattles of the frame etc are really dampened...honestly, when i got the car back after the swap i loved the power of the new engine right away, but i almost could not enjoy the ride b/c it was so freaking loud. I was getting really nervous about having this full-time DRAGSTER LOUD car, but after the dynamat, EZ foam and the foam that i lined the top part of the rear tirewells with, I enjoy the car so much more. To cover the whole area i did is around 75-100 lbs of the Dynamat extreme, but the weight gain is worth it. Think of it as permanently driving around with some stick skinny person that doesn't talk at all and actually makes yer ride quieter. So the answer is YES, road noise, tire, exhaust and engine noise are dramatically reduced.
the other great part of the dynamat is that it keeps your music inside of your car. If you do the install do a little b4 and after test. Have your music cranked up in the car, windows up and then get out of your car and close the door and see how much you hear outside the closed car--then do the same test after the dynamat. You will be amazed how the dynamat locks the music inside of your car. HondaTuning actually just did a major dynamat job on one of their integras this past month. look for dynamat extreme online and you can pick up the bulk pack (36 sq ft) for around $125-$150 shipped...i used two bulk packs and one door kit. don't buy the regular dynamat (it weighs more and creates a nasty chemical stink). the install of the dynamat is pretty easy and fun to do, just pulling out the seats, panels, carpet--nothing too tricky and when you get all that stuff out you will see the HORRIBLE absence of sound-deadening material that Hondas are equipped with stock, making you that much happier that you're doing something to fix the problem. let me know how it goes for you. Killa: Had the engine installed at a garage, but I did the exterior, interior and sound mods myself. I got the foam pads at a fabric store, but only b/c i ran out of money to get some better quality stuff. They are just 3 inch thick squares that i cut to fit in over the tire wells--it's amazing when you take out those rear panels that there is just this completely un-lined echo chamber in there, so it's a good spot to fill. here's a couple links for some foam that would be even better than what i got at the fabric store: http://www.foamrubbercity.com/acoustical_foam.htm here's the next sound-proofing thing i will buy to line the hood of the car. This site also sells other 2 inch thick sound-deadening pads (for non-high-temp areas) that would be perfect for over the tirewells: http://www.soundproofing.org/infopages/hoodliner.htm good luck and let me know how it goes. |
