I don't know where the Mustang hate is coming from, a 5.0 or to a lesser extent a 4.6, is ripe for making ridiculous amounts of power. More engine is more engine. That and Corvettes are just about the best value budget supercar you'll ever find, especially with C5s gettin down below 20k.
As for the aforementitioned Civic, well not only are you going to lose, but I don't know how you think redlining a motor not designed to be a real performance engine is going to retain the reliablity of a easy driven D16. And you go and strap a turbo onto it on top of that. Stupid. Probably didn't even swap pistons. Little math for the guy: High compression NA pistons + 10 PSI= Death. Well maybe not, that little 1.8 isn't going to ever make enough power to hurt itself. Really I don't give a rats ass what they want to do. Because it doesn't matter what the dickweed has under the hood, when you roll up in a TT Z, he ain't even going to try. And if he does then most likely it will be to the tune of everyone for a mile laughing at him. FYI TO THE WORLD: IF YOU WANT A FAST CAR, BUY A FAST CAR. DON'T **** AROUND WITH SOME SLOW POS. THATS JUST WASTING MONEY. THAT IS ALL.

The veeeeeery first thing I want to say is something to broke regarding his "fyi to the world"...
Cars with potential are cheap...fast cars are expensive. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaalright....why I like vettes but hate mustangs...and keep in mind...I'm referring to the newer mustangs...fox bodies are meh and the older ones are alright. First, I'd like to make it clear that I'm not just a "hater". I don't just go around flaming mustangs every chance I get for the fun of it. This kinda stresses me out, actually. But, from time to time, someone will ask me why I don't like mustangs so much. I could never completely put my reasoning into words. I can give tons of reasons, look up every fact figure and spec in the world on the mustang and whatever else I'm comparing it to and show you why the mustang's really not anything special. I could never give all my reasons because some of them just wouldn't make sense to anyone else but me. If you'd like, look up either the thread "350Z sucks" or "mustang vs. 350Z". I gave 13 pages of examples in one of those treads as to why the mustang V6, GT, cobra, and saleen were nothing special when compared to the Z32 and/or Z31. It would be good reading on a long cold winter's night if you wanted to pick my brain on the subject a bit more. This is a lot shorter though. I won't ever just say "well...it sucks cuz I said", nor will I be a stubborn bastard when I've been proven wrong. I'll always have reasons (and/or facts with referances if requested) for my statements and admit when I'm wrong. I'm not just another idiot out mindlessly bashing other cars. I welcome someone to turn me to the ways of the mustang... 2 versions of this...short and long...short first: Few things *I* look for in a car. 1: Value: Mustang = insanly cheap, but my car still costs as much as it's tires. 2: Originality: I REALLY don't need to say anything about this, but I'll go into in version 2. 3: Looks: Subjective, I know, but I think mustangs are plain looking, fugly creations that we're forced to see waaaaaaay too often. 4: Power potential: There are countless cars that have reasonable amounts of potential. Countless. Mustang's not even ALL that amazing anyway. Mustang gets no points there. 5: Well roundedness: Alright...finally a catagory that deserves a little explaining. I have a hard time calling any car that's built for one major purpose a "sports car". Mustangs are pretty much just drag cars. They aren't even GREAT at that. They don't turn exceptianally well, they don't stop exceptionally well, they don't really do anything too well except for go straight, which they do 'ok' at best in stock form. I want a car that can handle turns, that has decent brakes, that can accelerate well, that has decent top end, etc. If I wanted a car JUST for going down a drag strip, I'd buy a Grand National. Now THOSE are amazing drag cars. I could go on forever, but this is the short version, so I'll stop. As for the vette...the vette is superior in all of those catagories. It's a far more balanced sports car, faster in stock trim (not much, but a little), more unique (once again, not much, but a little), looks WAY better, has just as much potential if not more...the only thing it loses out lots on is the value end. ------------------------------- Alright....now I'm gunna ramble a bit cuz it's late and I'm out of it and I feel like it... The first, biggest, most obvious reason: you see 29836427895635871623718725189750298359462384710924 mustangs on every simple 5 mile excursion to the local liquor store. It's just re-god damned-diculous. I'm down right friggin sick of them. You could put a jet engine in them and sell them for 5 cents and I might consider considering the thought of scrounging around between my seats for the 3 cents I'd be willing to use to strike up a deal on one and all along I'd be thinking to myself, "well...it's a cheap jet engine...I'm sure I can find some use for it somewhere else". I wouldn't be caught dead in one. Can you get power out of them? Sure. How many cars can you say that for? Countless. There for, good old mustang earns a big goose egg for points there. Besides...that's not what I'd want to buy to make power out of anyway...I'd find the cheapest thing I could that had potential. Mustangs, however unbelieveably cheap they are, definately aren't the cheapest things that I could find. I'd look for an 86T that runs well and sink a little money into THAT instead...oh wait...I DID. The 86T has better looks (in my oppinion...it's subjective, I know, so I really don't even consider the fact that I think mustangs are fugly when going through the reasons why I hate them), is a much more original car, and is a car that can be just as fast as any mustang if not faster on a budget. The interior of them is just bleh. It's plain and pretty cheap. Look at the Z32's interior. Everything necessary to the driver is at FINGER'S REACH. A/C controls, light controls, wiper controls, all that is necessary for the business of driving. Not only is the mustang's interior incredibly boring with the plain old round knobs for A/C controls, but you have to reach for everything. The headlight knob that you have to pull out is just so tacky to me for some reason. At night, you're forced to drive around with this knob protruding from your dash board an inch further than it usually does...I know...I'm weird, but this would drive me NUTS. Probably the oddest reason for my despising of these cars is something that probably none of you could relate to. Damn near everyone I've ever met that drove one of these rolling insults was an asshole. I don't like the cars anyway, but this association that I've made definately did not help me to like the cars more. It's after 4 am now. My head hurts. I'm going to bed.

For most of people:
Car with potential (cheap) + money (expensive)= Fast car Thats about as far as this type of car will ever go. Money (Expensive) + A quality local automotive sales magazine or establishment (Annoying) = Fast car This setup gives you pretty much the same results as the first without the work and without the problems that go with building a fast car out of a car that was never really designed to go fast. And more often then not, the second sitituation will be faster then the first. Now if you want to go further: Car with potential turned Fast car (expensive) + More money (VERY expensive) = Faster car This is really really expensive and you won't get what you will from \/ Fast car (Expensive) + Money (Expensive) = Faster car then /\ A 240SX with engine swap, 6 spd, completely chassis work, gone through in and out might be as fast as a Z32 with about half the money invested. It is always better to start with a car that is actually designed to be fast, rather then try and make one.

Re: 300zx vs Civic
plus, if you try to make a car fast that wasn't meant to be fast, then you might come into some reliability issues. i want my car to be fast and fast all the time, not just some of the time.
p.s. i like your guys' equations thingys.

You seem to think I'm referring to trying to make a Yugo fast or something...I'm not. THAT WOULD be a car that would require a LOT of money to be made fast.
Why would I buy a "fast car"....say....a brand new Mustang GT... MSRP: $18,000+ 0-60: Mid/high 5 seconds 1/4 mile: Low-mid 14s. ...when I can buy a cheap car that isn't the fastest thing in the world, but COULD BE, and add a little money and effort? 86T Paid: $800 0-60: ~7.4 sec 1/4 mile: low-mid 15s After adding ~$750 in mods... 0-60: Mid/high 5 seconds 1/4 mile: Low-mid 14s The end result is the SAME! I've spent $1,550 INCLUDING THE CAR, and I can go from there!!! The only difference is ~$17,000. If you would rather spend way more money than do a little work for the same result, hey...by all means...go for it. You are talking about how you don't want to make a car faster than it was originally intended to go and whatnot...guy that did the Turbo FAQ on Z31.com has been doing exactly what I'm talking about on his Z31T for a long time and never had reliability issues. Just because it's faster than it was stock doesn't mean that it CAN'T HANDLE IT. Come on, guys... Now you see what I mean by "fast cars are expensive, cars with potential are cheap"...I hope, anyway...

well ok then thats fair enough i suppose
ur hate for mustangs sounds oh so familier to me. i am not a hater either i dont just do it to be different or to annoy ppl, i really cant explain why i hate the Holden Commodore and the Ford Falcon, there is no rational explanation for it. think the same philosophy behind the mustang, excelpt in a 4 door plain looking sedan......... im telling you that i would drive a mustage ANY DAY over one of these pieces of Australian engineering. They look shit, even the ppl that drive them cant possibly deep down inside think that they are nice looking, its just not possible. they weigh like 1500kg's+, handle like masiive shit looking boxes with wheels. also they drink an obscene amount of petrol. And for some reason (i cant fathom for the life of me why) they are Australias favourite car! I have a few ideas which might apply to mustangs aswell. Why is it that only TOOLS drive them??? Maybe on purchasing the car u have to sign something thats says "I must be a Dickhead and a Tool when ever possible, so I solumly swear!" or maybe its the plastics in the car leaking out fumes just pissing off every body within a certain radius. lol these are good ideas but based sadly only in Fantasy, the real explanation came to me in a dream and went like this: The reason they are all Assholes is because once they have completed the purchase they realise how laughably shit there new cars are, so they instantly become hatefull and jealous of even the Grandma in the Civic. well sorry about the cry, my gf is pretty sick of hearing bout it lol

I have some cash I'm spending on a 300ZX, amking it Luscious (read that thread).
Now, I think I am going to get a nice 94 Neon and put a sweet ass sweet body kit on it. Then I will wash it a few times. That should add about 150HP, lower my 1/4 time down a bit, wouldnt it? Whats a ricer? Is that a 4-banger with a coffee can exhaust? I gew up using the tearm for any loud Japanese car, including Z's. There was a kid with a 88 Z31 with a fart can that drove to school everyday. Fucker sounded like he needed to change his drawers where ever he went, heh. Does that qualify to be called a ricer? |

Re: 300zx vs Civic
sadly enough, a z can be a ricer. i don't blame it on the z, i blame it on the owner. if i could, i would take all the riced out z's and de-rice them.

I wish reading sarcasm was easier...
If I ever bought a Neon I would whole heartedly expect every person that knew me to kick me sqaw in the nutz untill I drive the thing off a cliff. And then pee on it. And light it on fire. Fire! |

Re: 300zx vs Civic
but then that would hurt our z's. if you want to hurt our z's on something, don't hurt them on a neon, do it to a......ummmm......on second thought, don't hurt z's at all.
