Re: waaaaa aaaaaaaaa aaaaaaa

Make sure you ask them to tack rag the car before they paint it.. thatl take off all the grease from your fingers and dirt and dust that will collect on the car while your working, transporting, etc..

But if you let it sit without paint, it will rust VERY quickly, especially bare metal.. If you do haveto go down to the metal, and you plan on havin' the car sit for a little while.. Prime it? Get a can of primer/sealer.. Get the good stuff, go to a bodyshop supply store, or to a bodyshop.. mask off glass and lights and such, wipe the area down with acetone, wait a minute, then spray the primer on in 3 or 4 light coats.. Then wet sand to match the texture of the rest of the body

Just from experience with mine.. I did all the body and mechanical work on my first two paint jobs.. An 82' Camaro, factory metallic charcoal grey..
and 86' Camaro, black with blue pearl.. All the fenders and creases turned blue in the right light.. Looked really good..

And my 91' Z I painted factory red with blue pearl.. (creases turn purple) with silver "heritage edition camaro" racing striped painted on.. I also shaved the handles and locks...

My neibor owns a bodyshop, I get him to do my painting and major bodywork cuz I dont have the equipment

Thats the reason the body shop wants so much.. Because that prepwork is the most time consuming part of a paint job.. Where I live, a decent autobody rate is about $65 dollars an hour.. If they want $750 dollars thats about.. Ide say 17 or 18 hours their labor.. That means it'l take you closer to 25 or 30 hours..

If you do decide to do it, Good luck!!

the pearl flakes are mixed with the paint..usually. if you want to paint your car yourself, i'd suggest you do lots and lots of reading about painting techniques or buy a book. it takes a clean ventilated room with plenty of light. the biggest problem is that you try to paint shadows and then you get runs. spray technique is the most important thing, so you dont get light and dark spots and keep overspray down. but hey, ya cant learn unless ya try.
