13.8 ET
101 MPH trap speed
2.1 60' time

pulled off those best times at two different tracks during two seperate summers with the NOW old 2.93's.

Will definitely post my ET's with the new 3.73's if I get to a track this Sunday. I'm pretty excited to see the difference cause she just rips now on the street....

I would but for that ammout of money I could rebuild my engine with a nice roller cam and ported GN-1 heads and the whole nine yards and be deep in the 10.20 range.

HELL yeah 94camaroZ28, i wsh there was an abandoned navy base, or airforce base, or army base around here were we could set up a strip, id be in hog heaven, set up meets like twice a week. you should look into making your spot a bit more well known, and start a regular cruise night or racing event.

Re: All right, Lets not be shy. Post up your times!!!! (Car,engine)

not trying to bash the domestic/import war or anything but isnt the "better" thing about a v8 is its suppose to be faster? i ran a 13.8 last week in my honda civic with just a simple motor swap (1.8liter motor) and a 55 shot of nitrous on street tires. 2.169 60ft. by no means trying to start a war, just trying to understand why there are so many camaro guys around here that bash imports and cant put up better times then 13's or 14's. fill me in...... :d

well mr kersten, these camaros can run your 13.8 in stock condition. swap the motor, and shoot some nitrous and watch it run a 10 or less.

Re: All right, Lets not be shy. Post up your times!!!! (Car,engine)

well for me, its purly the V8 feel. yes, if i sunk money into it it would be a helluva lot faster. as it is im building essentially a junkyard 350 that will put out 380hp and push me into the 12s to very low 13s with the right gearing. but even if it ran 18s 1/4 miles all day, its the sound, its the feel. i honestly get a pain in my head when a ricer goes by with a fart can tip, like it honestly hurts, while the lope of a V8 massages the pleasure lobe of my brain. at least thats they reason why i have em.

Oh jesus christ. You just started it now. First of all all it really comes down to is who has the most money. The reason I hate rice burners is:
-Spoilers
-double decker spoilers
-tripple decker spoilers
-altezas, and all those euro lights
-Vynl decails that take up the whole side of the car
-those stupid stickes on the windows that say "toyota racing" or "honda racing"
-seat covers that have the big "R" or "NOS" on them
-bright shiney colorful wipers
-neon lights
-street glow
-worth less hood scoops
-roof scoops
-Vtec lables on 80's hondas
...and all that other garbage that doesn't make a car go faster and and makes the car look like it was designed by my little sister!

well lets calm down now, i think he deserves the benifit of the doubt, seeing as hes actually done the engine swap and nitrous and all, im assuming hes more than a pep boy racer. and hes honestly trying to figure it out. i think real answers would serve better than riceboy bashing, seeing as he dosnt come off as a ricer to me.

Re: Re: All right, Lets not be shy. Post up your times!!!! (Car,engine)

Theres no war startin here, and I'll discuss with you - especially since you're using my car as the domestic benchmark lol.

The gears I pulled those times off with were highway gears - it was practically a two gear quarter mile with third kicking in at the last second. Matter of fact, with those gears the car used to hit 240 kph (150 MPH) at 6000 RPM in 3rd.

Second, you've got to remember that you're comparing your little Civic to a 1580 Kg car (3,480 LBS) - add a lean 173 lbs with me in the car.

And I'll say straight up that my car is not stock either - she's actually fairly modded with a cam, ignition, ECU module, pulleys, and yer regular bolt ons (intake/exhaust). Fact is the car has big time problems hooking, and my only two times at the track I simply didn't know what I was doing! I wondered why the track guys were waving me out of the burnout puddle each time I went to get my street tires wet. Who knows, maybe thats why the tranny mount popped coming out of the burnout puddle the first trip out, and why the clutches in the posi were burned out the second time I hit the strip.

I know everybody loves hearing sad excuse stories from the track - but honestly both times out was for fun. I didn't try to gain as many tenths as I could, like these other dudes who had their cars interior stripped, hoods off, and pushed their cars to the line. Me, I can't be bothered to pull out my dual 12" subbox or 35lb amp or CD collection to get every last gram out of the car - I actually discovered that the car ran faster with the tank full than when empty ... because the bitch could finally hookup.

Anyways, driving a Camaro is all about the image - like 89IROC nicely put, its about the sound ... and the feel. Import cars can be (and some definitely are) very very powerful. But its a totally different kind of power from a V8. Most import motors whether they be n/a, turbo, etc... start making their power way up in the RPM range. Most guys with econoboxes have to drop a gear and get to 5000 RPM just to keep moving forward up a hill, with traffic. You really appreciate how effortlessly a V8 can move a 3500 lb car up a hill at 35 MPH in 4th gear - with the tach barely moving above 2000 RPM. And it also happens to be around the RPM's where the engine sounds the best.

What else can I say? Take a look at the sig pick and check out the aerodynamics of the car - its a bullet. Speed aside, we're comparing a long, low, & wide "sports car" to a boxy, shorter, higher, and lighter economy car. The fact that you've got your Civic under 14's is cool. I mean hey, I could perform a "simple" (?) engine swap with my parents Montana minivan - ya, ditch the 3.4L and borrow the GTP's supercharged 3800 V6, I mean this is like an afternoon mod right? Would be one fast minivan that could do awesome burnouts - which IS cool (I'm not being a dick) - but its still a minivan. I wouldn't exactly start looking down on my Z after that.

Needless to say I cannot wait to hit the strip with a working posi differential this time, new gears, and a new found sense of what I'm doing. Hypsi you can bet I'm gonna try out yer little tire psi trick, and be sure to stay out of the damn puddle this time!

EDIT: Personally, I like the older Civics (like the mid 90's?) when they first rounded them off, and especially when they look otherwise stock with just a nice set of rims and a low key exhaust. I'd like to ditch the Impreza beater for a nice Civic as my daily driver...

... with a 50 HP shot of juice of course!!

Re: All right, Lets not be shy. Post up your times!!!! (Car,engine)

Traction, Elevation, Weather...Those are some things that can drastically change the way a car runs. It is also Power to weight ratio. A 3600lb camaro (with driver) putting 300hp to the tires (Average between most LT1's and LS1's on the road) has a ratio of 12 pounds per Horsepower the Engine makes. If a small car weighs in at 2800lbs, it only needs 233hp getting to the tires to be even, given the same conditions.

I have seen some fast imports, but without power adders the old saying holds true "there is no replacement for displacement".

You have a 13 second honda, and that is awesome IMO. (My 1995 Z ran 13.04 on ET Streets with only bolt on's, and 11.61 on N2O and Bolt ons) Most import drivers have 14-16 second cars and think they run 12's...LOL

The best thing about a V8 is the sound, feel, and the limitless (for a street car) power that can be made very easily and inexpensively. With the smaller motors (I4, V6, I6), you are very limited on what you can make them push on the street without spending HUGE dollars.

Re: All right, Lets not be shy. Post up your times!!!! (Car,engine)

I think that possibly the best thing about a v8 is the incredibly huge aftermarket for it. Theres endless options when your building up your engine. With some imports you have a hard enough time finding a company that makes an exhaust header. Theres a ton for V8s.

Not only the availability of parts, but the difference in price too.
