hey ace, are you looking for quality or volume? ok this is just what i have found out from using alpine vs pioneer, my old alpine 9807, had a bass engine, nomatter how loud i turned it, the bass was never really that loud, maybe it is because of the 4v sub out, but the bass was really really clear, even for a kicker comp vr, but now, i replaced it with a pioneer premier 860, the bass is insanely loud, much louder than i have ever gotten it to with the alpine, but at high volumes, the bass becomes muddy, so this is what im guessing, the alpine is more quality oriented, and less volume, the pioneer on the other hand, is the opposite, it can get really really loud, much louder than the alpine hu, but it has a very messy bass engine, nomatter how i set it

1000$ for jsut subs and amp....damn

15 brahma, 15 xxx, idmax 12(don't think they make a 15) or maybe two idmax 12's.........

i'd say get two idmax 12's and an amp that gives them about 500-700 watts apiece, rms of course, you could keep that under 1000$ and it would be almost unbeatable IMO.

The reason the bass is muddy is because you porbably have the lowdness setting on. They are both quality oriented, you just have to know how to adjust them right. It is not just the bass engine, there are a lot more features you need to work with on the pioneers sometimes
