just for the record: mclaren's f1 engines aren't made by mercedes themselves, but a mercedes-owned company named ilmor engineering. mercedes can't be blamed for the lousy start of the f1 season, although I wish they could (yes, I hate mercs - the only good things mercedes/amg have made the last ten years are the clg-gtr's and the engine used in the pagani zonda).

Re: Baby McLaren Moves Closer
All I think of when I here F1 is Poor KIMI.
I feel bad I wish he would have had a good comp with schumi this year.

Kimi has awesome potencial, there is a reason he is known as "Iceman" in the F1 world.
However I must unfourtannlely say I think Schumi would have won most of the races even with a fully functional McLaren car. Schumi drives very risky and has the talent to back it up, Kimi is another kind of driver, does few mistakes and rarely takes high risks like Schumi. It was really exiting last season while Schumi, Kimi and Montoya all had a shot at the F1 crown. |

Yea I dont know why Mclaren engines keep goin If they would have made that stupid rule where their only allowed to use 1 engine. It would be a much more interesting season.

Yup, it could have been different for McLaren with more engines, but come on, they invest millions of $$ in these engines and they should at least keep together for one race!
Almost all of their competitors manage to make their engines last for a whole race....McLaren as a top team should really be ashamed over their lousy way of managing their assets!

Re: Re: Baby McLaren Moves Closer
[quote=karbon]how will the third person get into the seat? it sounds like it will be even more difficult than getting into the f1's driver's seat. then with the third seat set rearward, will there be enough room for the engine without making the wheelbase too long and won't the passengers heads block the views to the side?
The driver obviously would NOT be the rear centre seat. They would ahve teh driver either left or right, with a rear centre passenger seat. Then teh front passenger seat would slide forward to permit access to the rear seat. This would alsto permit luggage space to either side of the rear passenger. The overall length of teh passenger compartment would not be any more than teh F1. Except that it would ahve to be moved slightly back, due to the front suspension (teh central position of the F1 was partially to avoid having the front suspension impinge on foospace) Even with a V12, the F1 had a wheelbase only 12cm longer than the 360, thanks to it's transverse transmission (transaxle, like the 360) and their emphasis on compactness. A V8 would make it even more compact. I think teh main detractor to fitting a third person is the width. The F1 worked because the passengers' feet stretched p beside the driver. Where would the centre rear passenger's feet go? The shifter/centre console woul dbe in teh way. I'm betting either 3-seat liek the big daddy, or a two seat. |
