EVOs are awesome.

The GTOs are a little on the heavy side, but still a very good performer.

Ill try and find the MSN article. They didnt say that Mitsu was going out of business, more like the fact that they are the only unprofitable Import car company and Daimler Chrystler were planning on giving up on financially backing the company and selling their 33%

I'm not sure of the evos, what do you all think?

From my understanding that ALL mitsu engines/trannys blow like no other. I know a guy who gets at least 5 or 6 mitsus every weak at his shop. Rarey does he gets nissans. He does get alot of dodges in though, not surprising.

Re: Why does everyone admire the Skyline?

I think the appeal of the car is two-fold, first you have the people who recently learned about the car (mostly from fast&furious) and like for that reason, then you have the people who like it for its performance potential versus price (except US legalization fees). To me, I've liked them for several years, I don't remember the first time I learned about it but it was in high school (6-7 years ago). I was excited when I found out Motorex could get them legally, and thats what I'm working toward.

It's kinda like asking, "why is your favorite color your favorite color?'......
Being in the Heart of Dixie, I am surrounded by domestic Muslce, so a few years back, when I sold my Camero and started eyeing the Eclipse, I started being seduced by the import side---then comes Gran Turismo and everyone I know is idolizing this car you can't even HAVE in America...that got me intereted.....Later, beng in the Navy, I saw these things up close in their hometown and I knew someday I would have to have one. Then, the week I got out of the Navy I finally caught 2Fast2Furious on DVD, and the PRELUDE, where the "Brian" character is on the run and he just goes and throws down cash on a Skyline was kind-of like a defining moment for me---just seeing the right thing at the right time and everything clicks.....In Zen we call that "satori". That was perhaps my last, most vivid "awakening". At a time in life when I had no idea or direction to go, I have to say every single thing in my life now goes back to that single, defining moment.
But it kinda goes to what one person said---some worship it like a God.
That's me. I BOW TO SKYLINES.

Re: Why does everyone admire the Skyline?

by the way, that's why I never got the Eclipse---I saw too many break like little toys.....My wife says that anyone that upgrades their power and doesn't upgrade the vital components--i.e., doing the chip swap to get +400hp out of the Eclipse without getting better camshaft, etc, is asking for trouble, and I think she must be right cuz she knows cars better than I ever could hope to. So, in a sideways kinda way, I guess she's got me wanting a 1995/96 body style Eclipse again, but only for a show car, cuz when it comes to racing the SKYLINE is all I ever want. But the word on the street has and probably always will be that Mitsu Breaks. I do like the new rivalry between EVo vs. WRX, but in that one I take the WRX any day. Their numbers are basically the same but the EVO is still a Mitsu.

My God, u really love the Skylines! As they say, once you have driven the thing, the rest whimpers into oblivion, sometime you don't even notice them. I fell in love with the car ever since the 32 was launched! And I am still in love with it now! I had bought a Beamer recently for my daily drive. That consigns my GTR to an once-a-week kinda drive. I had not driven it for a week and today I drive it to work. It still feels like the first time! The power, the speed, the attention you get, the roar of that 6 in line, the whish whoosh of that twin turbines, the almost intimate communication you hace with the steering and the wheels, the...erm...everything!

My wife is pushing me to get her a CLK430 and I want a Navi. I rationalize the Navi for pulling the R32 to the tracks and shows (I will not be worrying about legalizing it at first so that I can get it faster). How she rationalizes the CLK430 I don't know. She is sitting right next to me so I imagine she will be telling me again for the 100th time so who knows? I used to be into luxury so I understand (she just said "don't you want me to have the best?", which is true so I guess she wins...)---my previous vehicles before I entered the Navy were a Lincoln Continental and Tahoe, and this was after my decked out v8 camaro so I guess I go threw phases....By the way I am embarassed about the v8, especially since I might have gone with a beautiful 96 eclipse that called my name every day when I drove by it---then I would have to pretend I didn't hear it (or didn't have auditory hallucination) after I got the chevy.
Oh well. Our stable of vehicles is aged and increasingly causing me to crave all new stuff. I still like my Z71 cuz it was the first vehicle I ever had but I still need a Navi (and a CLK430 convertible I am reminded for probably the millionth time). Who knows, if things continue going as well as they are maybe we will get them both on the same day. I remember when we got the Tahoe---we went to the Chrysler dealership to get a $3 vacuum hose and left with a $35000 truck. I remember the dealer treated us like crap cuz I was in adidas pants and a "wife-beater" shirt and I think J was in her favorite yellow sophie shorts and a car show t-shirt----we surely looked like young nobody punks to this slick ass car dealer----that was until he ran my credit and then his additude changed and we drove off the lot that day without putting down a dime.
Appearances can be decieving, I'm sure that guy learned his lesson.

Re: Why does everyone admire the Skyline?

it's not the last inline six! ford have an inline six turbo in australia, and would be an awesome car if it weren't so heavy.
the reason i got a skyline was because its the best thing a young bastard can buy, and performs almost as well as a 400 grand ferrari.
mitsubishi are going broke, in australia at least, we tax payers are actually paying for every car made just to keep a few jobs going, all the dealers are handing back their dealerships, and the factory in adelaide would have closed about three years ago, if it wasn't given millions by the government

To me the Skyline could be the GOD of the known car world.
When you think about it, these cars pretty much re-wrote the history books, there performance is second to none (stock or modified), You have to look at it as and all round package and the GT-R has it.
I even have it tattooed on my arm thats how much i love them.
But i think it all comes down to performance history, the GT-R has a great record here, it's like Ferrari in the F1, there record is almost faultless and they have a very big following.
p.s
I think the R34 GT-R is one of the meanest looking cars going around. The headlights look like there glaring at you, like an old samurai waiting to strike you down. I think the looks alone of all the GT-R's is enough to get afew people thinking, anyway there my thoughts.

Always remember "GODZILLA"

Re: Why does everyone admire the Skyline?

No offense T-88 its not the best car in the world stock. Yes its one pf my favorite Japanese cars and thats because it can do things a lot of cars in its class cant do. Same as the Evo. That car can do things other cars for the price cant. But if you ask me it isnt God's gift to man like the 2 Fast 2 Queer crowd like to make it out to be.

Thats your opinion, and people who live off them movies are down right stiupid.
Well, what other 4wd class is there? EVO's, WRX's, GT-R's all other 4wd's (sports cars), to me are all in the same class, yes some can be modified to hold more power, but if all were modified to a limit of, say, 400bhp, who would win around a track and has this been done?
I would tend to think the GT-R's would pull through, but there my thoughts.

And we won't go into drag racing, it's not a good way to find the true performance of a car.
