Re: 2004 Chrysler Town & Country Transmission

I'm on my 7th & 8th Chrysler minivan and lost only one tranny, which had over 200K miles on it. I never had issues with the solenoid packs nor the PCMs. Most of my vans had the 3.3 motor in them, 2 had the 3.8 and one had the 3.0 The one that lost the tranny had the 3.8, if that means anything. All my vans except the 8th have or had well over 100K miles on them. One van I just sold had 185K and the tranny shifts as smooth as day one. I am a satellite dealer/installer and my vans are always loaded down with equipment, tools & ladders. I don't hot-dog my vans and I don't spin the wheels excessively, if I am on a pacth of ice or mud. I've heard that a pin in these trannies tends to shear from eccessive spinning of one wheel. Also, I only put ATF+4 fluid in them.

Based on my experience with these vans I would have no hesitation buying one with 113K. Since you can do most of your own repairs, I imagine you gave it a good look-over and you have checked out how it shifts. Ask if the owner ever changed the tranny filter, and if so, what kind of fluid was used.

Good luck.
