Alot of people are saying TCC here. I dont think that is sonxie's problem. That sounds like a vacuum leak or heavy carbon deposits in the intake plenum.

There is a cleaner which you can run through the engine that may help. Its called Seafoam, you can get it at Napa or Advance auto. What you do is get a length of vacuum hose about two feet long. Find a small vacuum hose in the engine compartment that eventually leads to the throttle body. A good one to use would be the evap canister hose on the passenger side under the coolant reservior. Connect the extra hose to the hose in the engei so you can hold the can upright when you do this. You start the car and let it suck the seafoam out of the can a little at a time. You will need to play with the throttle some when you do this to keep the car from stalling. Once it has sucked down about half a can of the seafoam turn the engine off and wait two or three minutes. When you restart the engine you should get a HUGE cloud of whitish grey smoke from the exhaust. This is NORMAL, all that smoke is from the dirt and gunk that is being sucked out of the intake manifold and is getting burned up in the engine.

This should help. But you may want to check all the vacuum lines and fittings to make sure you dont have any leaks too. Check ALL the vacuum lines, I had an intermittent idle problem one time that turned out to be a broken vaccum line. The break was in a spot where I couldnt see it so I didnt know it was broken. So make sure you chekc them all very carefully.

Re: 1990 Lumina Stalls

I finnaly cleaned air intake control (AIC) myself two month ago. It was pretty dirty. The car has run well for 1 month, although I am still wondering when it will stall.

I tried to put new AIC in. However, I were scared because backfire and a lot of smoke. So I cleaned the old one and put it again and returned the new AIC.
