What?? The Infiniti I35 looks more like a Max than the Max. You still get a mid-sized sedan, 3.5L with all the trim (17" rims, leather, climate control, 6-speaker bose, 4yr/60K warrenty) for under $30K. It's even cheaper than the new Max. Ya'll need to wake up and smell the Luxury.

What Cease was trying to say is that the Maxima of ole' had the addage 4 Door Sports Car attached to it meaning (it was lightweight, had a good suspension, fast and wasn't expensive) that it was a performance Sedan (something he believes the new Max has gotten away from) in that the new Max is bigger looking as far as the body is concerned, plus it isn't lightweight (it is the heaviest Max to date).

I think that Nissan should just add 4 doors to the Z and market that as the Maxima then we would have a 4 door sportscar for real and just imagine if the up the hp/tq or have a Nismo backed warranteed Turbo or SC as a factory option, with RWD, the Max would be the 4 Door Sportcar (4DRSC) that it always wanted to be.

Bk, I did understand. But the G35 in no mid sized sedan. From the 3rd gen forward, Max had always had room - along with the power, and decent handling, etc. The draw was the best of both worlds, all the sedan features with enough sport to satisfy the average sweet tooth. If you drop the size down to G status, you kill the car in my humble opinon.

My thought was that car should be bigger and not smaller. Well longer anyway. It is the flagship, so make it a flagship. Let make a VQ40 v8 with dual exhaust, 300hp/325torque, 4 speed auto with optional AWD. I want 150 on the speedometer, climate control and a Sony (not Bose) CD changer in the dash with 8" woofer in the trunk. I want standard 17x8 rims. The body should start back at the Gen3 style and round the edges, with a steeper slope to the hood. The back seat should have split folding capabilities.

Before you guys bust on my for dreaming, all this stuff is do-able. It would not be any more expensive than the current model AND it elevate the Max to a new level. It would one Mad Max

Re: Styling of new maximas SUCKS

i would never want to drive a V8 maxima. that's not what the car is about. The maxima was the flagship cuz at the time it was the only VQ pwered vehicle in the line-up and was just faster than any other USDM nissan car, not to mention every other japanese sedan at the time and was FWD. the engine is what makes the car. it's got the best damn v6 ever. why would nissan abandon that?
all this while maintaing 26+ mpg. i don't want no v8 maxima... ever.

the 5/5.5 gens already have 160 on the speedo, a 6 disc in dash changer(yeah it's bose though) and 17x8's stock. i think a 4th gen is 10x more appealing than a 3rd gen and the back seats do split fold in 5th gens and up, which is nice for those of us with aftermarket subs. Ther is also a 6 inch subwoofer located between the rear passengers heads in the back of the car. and if you don't think the max has progressively gotten larger and larger since 4th gens than i don't know what kinda maxima's you've got where you live.

all the stuff you mentioned is definitely do-able. in fact most of it's been done already.

BP, each progressive car has gone up in power. Where else is there to go after a 3.5L V6? At some point, there will not be a reason for an even bigger V6. And with more power, there is a limit to how long it will remain a FWD car.

"Captain, it must evolve..." Spock - Star Trek, the movie.

Bigger? Subjective. I think the Gen 3 had more interior space than the Gen 4. Just an ooch. I think the gen 5 is longer than the Gen 4. I think we lost ground with the 04. Woofer? Gotta a 6" in my Infiniti, want 8". Want Sony. Want Bose gone.

"Cause I know you want that 808.." Outkast.

Botton line: the 04 screwed up the lineage in my opinion and I'm afraid it may rub off on the I35. Unless something changes, personally I may done with the whole thing. I got about 6 months to make up my mind.

The word that I like to use is swollen. In either case, it drives like a huge car. I saw one yesterday try to make a U-turn from a turn lane on a 6 lane divided street. Didn't even come close to making the circle.

I actually think they look nice. Well I only like the SE model with the 18" wheels on it. The SL looks to grandpa looking too me.

But in any event. It maybe a BOAT by looks, but Nissan, IMO has still kept the weight fairly down for a big car. 3400 lbs is still not in boat land. And there are already rumours that the 350Z motor is actually in the 6th Gen.

Please if a 14.3 in a 5spd Automatic is slow in a 6th Gen Maxima, then wtf is fast? As I can remember no other generation of the Maxima STOCK has hit a 14.3. The closest of course was the 5.5 and I believe there was only one driver that hit a 14.4 stock in the 6spd. He's the guy out running M3s and S2000s with just CAI and 17" SSRs.

But in any event, with the 6th Gen lowered on eibachs and some 19s or 20s the car just screams sport/pimp IMO.

Here's proof of the times:

Fact. The VQ series 3.5L V6 is in the 350Z, and the Maxima, and the Altima 3.5, and the FX35, and the G35, and the I35, and the Murano. And I think it's in the Pathfinder.
