Re: one-wheel burnout

to my knowledge there is no diff between posi and LSD, they are interchangeable to my knowledge.

as far as torsen, no there are no clutches, its a gear driven, torque biasing differential, that actually takes power away from a slipping wheel and sends it to the wheel with traction, so you never loose power to the ground. and it is much tougher.

Re: one-wheel burnout

I have a welded rear, and it only chews shit up when I go around a hard corner faster than I should anyway. Other than that I havn't had much of a problem.

There is a difference between a Real posi, and LSD.. But the posi rear end GM used wasnt an actual posi rear end.. It was a limited slip..
A true posi rear is more like a locker, or welded axles.. Theres always power being transfered to both rear tires..

Re: one-wheel burnout

Thanx for clearing that up.. question for everyone, is the Torsen a superior unit to the Auburn?

Re: one-wheel burnout

i would say so, but thats my personal opinion, because the main difference in the torsen to all other rear differential carriers is that its not only eleminates one wheel spin, but can actually send different levels of power to each wheel, say for instance your driving up a hill with power at 50/50 and as you go up you hit a patch of oil lets say with the right rear tire, normally that tire would start spinning, and power would stop going to the other wheel, with posi, or a locker, that tire would be pretty useless but youd still only have 50% power goin to the tire with traction, even if the right tire wasnt spinning. with a torsen rear, it can actually bias the torque, sending say 80% of the power to the left tire with traction, while still giving the right tire the 20% power it can handle without slipping. thats the style diff they use in hummers, ever notice that when a hummer is off roading, and say the right tire is lifted up into the air, it stops turning, that is because 100% of the power is being sent to the tire on the ground. im not sure exactly how it all works, i do know that its all gear driven, and it senses tire spin, and takes power away from the freewheeling tire. you can try the website for more info, i think its...

Re: one-wheel burnout

note - the fourth gen F bodies used the T-2 style torsen i believe. could be wrong but i think thats right.
