Whoa there guys...

The Tamiya is the 1996 Porsche GT1 in 1:24th (based on the 911's head/tail light package)

The Revell (or Dragon/UT) is the 1997 Porsche GT1 Evo in 1:24th (based on the Boxer's head/tail light package)

The 1998 Porsche GT1 is "available" only in resin.

The decals for the Revell would not be correct for the Tamiya and vice versa...of course we ARE modeling and whatever the builder wants, the builder gets! ;-)>

Anyways, I'm too anal to be paid much attention to!

Bill

I did alot of goggle search and all to find the right one, and color details for the motor.

the 1997 porsche Gt1 evo is the car i am building.

the street car version was made in 1996.

the 1998 and 1997 versions of the Gt1 evo are diffrent. the side number on the 97' sit flat, the 98 are slanted up. there are a few minor diffreneces

I never did find that much online for the 96-98 GT1's. Racer did an "In Focus" spread of the 96 BPR competitor which is what I used for my 1996 #25 Mobil 1 1:24th Tamiya Porsche.

For the 1997 Mobil 1 Evo (I've built 1 of those and still have 2 of the Champion cars) I used the SpeedVision racetapes for detailing. This model was recently destroyed...;-(>...and will have to be replaced. Dragon (a Chinese model company if I'm not mistaken) designed and created the molds and sold the kits to Revell of Germany in 4 forms. Prepainted Mobil 1, unpainted Mobil 1, Champion and History Channel versions.

For the 1998 Scale Productions did a Mobil 1 and a Jever liveried version and either Modelers or Sakatsu did a VERY pricey resin Mobil 1 version.

As for the homologated "street versions", no manufacturer did it in 1:24th plastic, but in 1:1, a GT 1 was created for each year, 1996, 1997 and 1998, to conform to ACO rules regarding competition.

The "Evo" designation was given to the 1997 design because it was an evolution of the original 1996 design (with little outward changes on the LM cars anyways other than the head/tail light package).

The 1998 design was radically different and an attempt by Porsche to stem the "Great Silver Menace"...It won where as the CLK GTR flipped itself right out of competition and prototype racing altogether! At Petite LM later that year, the 98 GT1 flipped!

In 99 it was a Williams built BMW LMP (carrying Dell livery)

then 00-01-02 it was the Audi LMP's

and in 03 it was the Bentley boys.

Bill

p.s. Did you know that Scale Motor Sports did a Declkit for the Revell '97 Evo that allowed the builder to recreate the all carbon fiber test mule? It was the second Declkit to allow that. The first being for the Tamiya '96 Porsche GT1!

Re: Progress: Revell 97' porsche Le Mans

awsome, i am preparing the body for paint. I am doing it in the white. i am using a white primer i just wet sanded to remove the crap, primer leaves clobs of crap some times and then messes up paint. i will be painting i hope today!? i Hope....it is a nice day so it will be plenty warm to paint it.

The Merc that "flipped" was the 1999 CLR.

UPDATES!!!

Ok so far i added 1 coat of gloss white. But made 1 minor mistake. i painted and there was crap on my bench and it went all over when the air hit it so got on my wing! BUT BUT BUT easy fix. i did 2 things. i put news paper down for the second coat of paint. and then i am going to sand the whole car any ways with 2000 grit and just clean it up, and sanding between coats helps with the next coat sticking and being real smooth!
