Re: 97 gsx w/16g vs. honda s2000 with intake, headers, exhaust

This IS my first import, so i can't really know how to do the work and stuff, but as i learn, i'll eventually start doing my own stuff. The place i get it worked on is an import performance shop, so the guy knows what he's doing. I already planned to do some work myself, but it's only going to be putting in Sparco seats and harnesses. I just don't want to mess up anything and jeopardize how my car runs.

There's no time like the present. If you aren't on a deadline... save yourself some money and wire the S-AFC yourself. Doesn't affect me though... just never makes sense to me to pay someone to do something I can do myself. God knows there's enough stuff that I CANT do, that I pay for.

Don't people usually bet more than that? I'm fixing to go take my car to the shop for the new mods. Wish me luck, i know i'll need it against the s2000 tommorrow night.

S2k isn't that impressive in a straight-away--especially in higher speeds. then again, the AWD will sap your power if you take it from a roll.. =X

Then again, AWD does take some time to master the launch, otherwise he will eat you alive. But your setup is pretty sweet. You should definitely be in the high 2xx whp, in my opinion.

Crazy. If only I had that kind of money to invest into my car.

$150 may not be an insane amount to race for, but on a car which you're new to... and are no doubt very unfamiliar with the ultra sensitive DSM tranny and the mastery of clutch slipping... you might need a larger gap in power to beat a good driver. I'm not saying an S2000 is that quick, but I wouldn't take any chances losing enough to buy me a new downpipe.

Re: 97 gsx w/16g vs. honda s2000 with intake, headers, exhaust

Hey guys, joe, you were right, that AFC is awesome!! My car has never run like this before. it feels soo fluid now, and even feels like it accelerates much quicker. The short throw is great too, i've never felt it shift so smooth before, cause I barely have to shift. I've been out driving all morning trying to get used to the new setup, and i just came in for a sec to take a break. Oh yeah joe, i put the seats in "myself" at three in the morning, well my dad helped a little. So far, the car's running great. The guy didn't have a datalogger, but he told me he could get one soon. I guess the next step after that is the horrid blitz body kit and the humongous APR wing, haha just kidding. I'm leaving at 10 tonight to go race, so i think i'm gonna get back out and practice some take offs. Once again, thanks for the advice and keep it comin'.

Re: 97 gsx w/16g vs. honda s2000 with intake, headers, exhaust

Alright. This is the datalogger that you want. http://www.pocketlogger.com/index.php?pid=plobdii
You will need a PDA that uses PalmOS. You can find them on ebay or locally used in the usual places, or buy a new low-end PDA for under 200 most likely.

Your AFC is extremely limited in what it can do without the logger. If your pump is labeled '150L' then it's not very big. Once you start tuning with the logger and AFC, you'll see that a 190L pump upgrade is in your future.

Again, you DO have a boost gauge don't you? Stock one doesn't count.

Re: 97 gsx w/16g vs. honda s2000 with intake, headers, exhaust

Well, the race came and it went. I won but it was so friggin close. I thought he had me so bad, until when we got in top gears. I only won by half a car length, and i was shaking like crazy. I'm just glad somebody finally put the jerk in his place. Plus with the 150 from the race, i'm gonna put it towards a datalogger. Yeah, i do have a boost guage and it was around 20 during the race. I'll also check out the fuel pump. I don't know what my guy did, but if i didn't have him tune it up, i probably would have lost. The only thing is now, i have to watch my ass cause the guy i beat was pissed and it'll only be a matter of time before he sinks some more cash into the S2K. Thanks again guys.

Good job beating the S2000, I have seen a lot of cocky s2000 owners.
O and buy my PDA

Re: 97 gsx w/16g vs. honda s2000 with intake, headers, exhaust

Hmmm... I know a kid who has a sweet as s2k. was driving it yesterday actually. (put on his high flows and greddy exhaust) I got on it and it was fairly impressive in the lower gears with take off. after 3rd gear though.. I wasn't all that shocked. With some more tuning and practice I'm sure you'll be able to lay a whoopin to his honduh ass. haha. Congrats on the kill.

Ashah, I'll buy your pda!!! PM me. I need one for the EVO

Hey, i've got some more questions. haha. What internal stuff can i do to my motor. Cam Gears? Pulley's? Camshaft? Oh yeah, and is the shift from the short throw supposed to be loud? And last but not least, how do you choose camshafts, and what is the exact purpose?
